Any of the Iberian factions (minus the Moors) have great late units with the pike and shot combos. England gets their Longbowmen, which are amazing. Teutonic Knights speak for themselves, of course.

It depends entirely on your preference and who you're preparing to face off against.

However, any siege army should be compromised primarily of heavy-armored units (especially if they know shield wall).

Portugal is the one that is for you, since it is small. But I always recommend the Holy Roman Empire, expansion possibilities are many.
