    Default Warhammer Modding Tutorial(s)

Here is an introduction video to modding TW:WH for all those new to modding totalwar games.

    https://youtu.be/CtoD9TcjuBI

The rome 2 tutorials on this channel are also very relevant to warhammer so you can watch them for help on modding specific aspects.

There may be more tutorials in the future, just dont ask when

    Happy modding

Hello Magnar, thx for the tutoriel as always

It's slightly off topic but I couldn't find info on that in the rome 2 forums, so I'll ask here instead :p : could you please explain what each "unknown" column in the melee_weapons_table doesn exactly in warhammer ? I'm mostly looking for what concerns the area of effect damage and pushback (if the 2 are separate as I suspect).

    TY

What I've been doing to try to figure this out is to have the official Tweak tool open to cross-reference with PFM.
I am the author of the "Weaker Towers" and "Officers Of" series of mods for Total War: Warhammer!

@ gryphon, compare the tables with the assembly kit as illuminatirex mentioned

    @hassas, not yet

So, there will be in the future the variant editor? We cant add our own models or animations (sadly, I want to add my own Warhammer army to the game, same as my miniatures jeje) but at last a variant editor will be awesome.

we cant add models atm but you can make units with existing models by creating/editing the vmds

    Hello Magnar,

Thank you for making the tutorial vid. It was good to watch. I will need to watch it a few more times as I am still unclear about how best to use PFM.
Anyway, I am writing to ask for your help if you have some time.

So I have been happily modding since the game launched. I have made a couple tweaks and changes to the Vampire Counts for fun and to learn the system for modding this game. So far so good.

However, now I am trying to create a new, unique custom Death Knight Legendary Lord to lead my armies. I want to use the Wight King model and skin for the unit.

All the files and settings seems fine, but I cannot get him to show up in game.... unless I go into agent_subtypes and set auto_generate to true.

But there is a problem with this....

Doing this does get my unit in game, but the stats and abilities are attached to a Vampiress model with a randomly generated name (my character has a specific and unique name). This also allows me to constantly recruit Death Knight lords each round, rather than just make the one unique hero that I want to play with.

I have gone into every file referenced by the Wight King, the Vampire Lords, Mannfred, and Heinrich multiple times using right click show references (starting with land_units and main_units) and I have copied all seemingly relevant settings into new records within the appropriate files.

I just don't know what I am missing. My unit either will not show up at all, or will show up all jacked up if I tick auto_generate. wtf?!

I would LOVE it if you could share some of your experience with me in this matter.

I have been searching daily for new information on modding lords, generals or heroes for TWWarhammer but alas no one has made any tutorials about this yet and the old information does not seem to apply to getting custom Legendary Lords working.

Thank you very much for any assistance you have time to offer.

    Cheers!

    oh, also

You can fix the issue with DaVE failing to connect by deleting the file TWaD_validation.xml from
    ..\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\assembly_kit\raw_data\db

I posted in the modding resources forum, but thought I would mention it to you directly in case you missed it.

    Cheers!

    Vette,

weapon damage is listed in Melee_Weapons.

you can create a new entry and make a custom weapon, or you can tweak a weapon already in use.

    Cheers!

    Thx Rov!

Can you recommend any tutorials regarding unit modding?
All I wanna do is make combat more lore wise not necesseraly more balanced.
The part I dont quite get is how to make your changes work in game,Medieval 2 was easy just save file this is a bit more complicated...

    THx in advance!

    Vette,

There are not a lot of tuts out for Total War Warhammer. It is different enough from older Total War games that the older tuts I have watched and read do not apply (and I have checked out half a dozen of them, there are not that many to begin with). One of the best to get started is the one Magnar linked at the start of this video. It is a good primer.

The best suggestions I can give you are,
Create a folder where you can back up changes you make that work and you want to keep.
Create a folder where you can save work in progress versions in case you make a mistake, cant find it and need to roll back to a working version (happened to me, I could not find what I had done to break my mod and did not make a backup so I ended up starting over).
Take notes. I keep a text document open on my other monitor where I can copy and paste table names and what they do and also what they link to. I found it useful for myself to untangle the nasty, nasty mess of table relationships.

    That is my general advice.

If you have an idea of what changes you specifically want to make, I can perhaps point you at some tables to check out.

    gotta run.

Thanks for making this tutorial, really helpful for a TW modding noob like me. QQ- can anyone point me to a tutorial around adding a new building to the game?

Just wanted to give a heads up, the video is wrong, you can;t just use a unique table name, you've also got to use PFM to delete every line that isn't edited or they'll override each other, Or at least thats how the projectiles table works.

This was a great help, Magnar. I tried messing with the tools a week ago and was completely lost, and after watching this last night I am well on my way of adding a new playable faction. It's already playable, now I'm just making all of the modifications.
