A few riders arrived from the west, including a Hellenic man born in Thessaly and a Median, following the Oxus river and then pressing south to Baktra itself. Land of a thousand golden cities..

They bring forth a letter for the satrap Seilenus, offering to create a route of trade between Baktra and Persia and more, if the satrap desires.

Seilenus accepts the agreement for the route of trade between Baktra and Persepolis.

A visibly exhausted messenger arrives from the south, from the satrapy of Drangiana, asking the satrap of Bactria, whether he wants to create trading relations with Aristazanes, as well. A trading bloc between the most prominent eastern satraps would be most beneficial for us, allowing us to monopolize the goods from the Orient. What's the opinion of Seilinus about it?

As Seilenus is away overseeing some of the improvements being made to Baktra, a local Bactrian lesser noble greets the messenger. He inform the messenger the satrap would be interested in his lord's offer.

A Macedonian rider approaches the gates of Bactria, the rider carries the flag of the Antiochid dynasty, once they arrived at the court of Seilenus they gave him a letter written by Antiochus, Satrap of Babylon.

    Letter To Seilenus

Dear friend, how are you doing in your satrapy? i hope all is going well and your lands may bring you much more pleasure to come.

I have written this letter to present you an offer, as i seek to balance powers between the western and eastern lands i seek allies in the eastern parts, therefore i offer my son Diodoctus to marry your daughter Cleopatra. It is my hope to establish friendship between our satrapies and to cooperate between us in this lands full of barbaroi people. It is my hope you accept this offer to form a strong alliance to ensure Macedonian hegemony among these distant lands.

    Signed, Antiochus, satrap of Babylon

Excellent. So has the lord agreed to establish a trade link between Bactria and Drangiana or would he like to wait a bit, before he makes up his mind?

The Bactrian thinks for a few moments. "Trade shall begin with all haste, the Kshathrapā shall be informed upon his return to Baktra."

Seilenus reads the letter and then drinks from the cup of wine presented to him by a servant. "I have no daughters to marry the son of Kshathrapa of Babylon, so I decline your master's offer."

A courier arrives from Phrygia to the lands of Bactria. He carries a message all the way from Anatolia.

"Good day to you Seilenus satrap of Bactria, on whatever day this letter happens to arrive. I wish to congratulate you on having been named to govern Bactria. It is good that fellow people of Makedonia should make a stand together so let us be friends and if you require anything do let me know good satrap and I will try to help you."

Weeks after Seilenus' response, Antiochus sends another letter to the satrap of Bactria.

    To Seilenus.

Dear friend, it appears my information has been incorrect indeed, i offer my apologies about my mistake. My newest information says you have not a daughter, but a sister suitable to marry instead, and if my information is correct her name is Cleopatra. Would you be interested in an alliance through a marriage with my 25 years old son Diodotus to cement our friendship? If we have the alliance cemented through a marriage alliance you can always count upon me as friend, even in times of despair.

Again my deepest apologies for the mistake

    Signed, Antiochus, Satrap of Babylon.

The courier is granted a room in the palace to rest from his journey in while Seilenus considers his master's words and writes a reply. Two days later, the courier is handed a small bronze statue of a Bactrian camel and a letter in response thanking the satrap of Phyrgia for his words and extending the satrap of Baktra's congratulations for him gaining his position and wishing him luck against the enemies of the empire that remain in Anatolia.

The second emissary from Babylon is led to a courtyard where Seilenus was meeting with several Bactrian chiefs and a few Makedonian officers who followed him to Baktra. The satrap excuses himself from his meeting to receive the letter, before returning to his meeting. Later that day, he would compose a response to Antiochus.
    Letter
    To Antiochus, Kshathrapā of Mesopotamia,

Unfortunately at this time I have other plans in mind for who my sister shall wed, so I must respectfully decline your offer of a marriage alliance between Mesopotamia and Baktra. I hope there can still be amiable relations between our satrapies.

a courier arrives from the far away lands of Phrygia, he hands a gift from his lord to one of the ministers near the palace gate and also hands him a letter

"Though I have already congratulated you for becoming the satrap of Bactria I also wish to give you a small gift.
This may serve you well and uphold your authority. When I campaigned in the north during the days of king Alexandros I was told that the locals worshipped animals. They upheld the horse, the bird and the bull as their utmost symbols. I send you a bull."

One can clearly see that the gift is a signet ring. The ring has the image of a bull, an auspicious and powerful symbol as it is a symbol of Zeus. At the top you see your name inscribed in Greek. It is said that the local people in Bactria as well as many people in Asia worship images of bulls and consider the bull as a symbol of a man's physical strength. Clever of satrap Herakles to make such a distinction for a satrap of Bactria.

The courier is greeted by one of the Bactrian chiefs under Seilenus, who accepts the gift on behalf of the Kshaçapāva, thanking the man for the gift before he left. The chief then gives the letter and signet ring to a servant to be delivered to Seilenus' quarters.

A missive returns, signed by Hagen, Lord of Hellenas and all Asia, and Regent of Alexander's Empire. The message gives approval for Bactria to bring order to Marakanda with any and all means possible, and granting Seilenus control of the Satrap if order is restored.

"This is most generous of your master. On behalf of my brother, the Kshathrapā of Baktra, we thank your master for this action." Mylleas then gestures for a servant to bring forth a few small pieces of art and other exotic goods of Baktra and Sogdiana. "Please take these gifts back to your master to show him our thanks."
