question about cavalry lances

recently i noticed that 2 Getae cavalry units - "Phylakes Daoi" and "Tarabostes" have long cavalry lances (xyston), which are supposed to be used with both hands... however they use them single handed, and also carry oval shields that are too big and heavy to be used in combination with big lances... Karthadast Sacred Band Cavalry also has long lance - but with smaller round shield.

Anyone noticed that? No other cavalry unit use such combination, which i find technically inaccurate - they should have shorter 1-handed lance if using shield (like Equiti, Brihentin, Lonchophoroi, exc...), or if having long xyston lances, they should lack shileds (just like Hetairoi, Xystophoroi, Kataphraktoi, and other 2-handed lancers)

Any idea how to make thir lance shorter? Thanks for opinion
