Im playing as germany and it is very time consuming to start but even harder to expand. I always start out with one passive barb ally and one aggresive barb enemy and then rome decides to attack me eventualy. The first time i played it was more or less a testing phase to get used to playing EB and the second time around everything ended up happening more or less the same except for ghaul being my ally this time around instead of enemy and i didnt expand so fast. ANyways the main enemy is the barb civ south west of my borders and they killed ghaul (i blame myself) but i have them on the defense as i am taking there bordering regions. But while i have good relations with almost every faction in game and my enemy is weak, rome ends up doing the obvious and attacks me. My main question is has anyone beat rome or achieved victory as germany? I think i took to slow of an approach as i only have 7-8 regions and am well into the game.

Swęboz become more difficult as the game proceeds, the main reason being their pathetic economy (especially compared to the Romaioi, who have the strongest economy in the game AFAIK). I think you should extend your control over all Germanic homeland provinces plus some of the Baltic ones (careful though lest you run into the Sauromatae) and probably consider kicking the Casse out of Britain (if you manage to get a fleet past the absurd masses of pirates in the Baltic sea). Raiding some Gauls or just aggressively conquering them is also an option.
I'm afraid that if you play peacefully as the Swęboz, the Romaioi will always snuff out the Gallic factions and eventually become too powerful for you to tackle. So it is best to go on the offensive, maybe raid Italy or help your allies with troops.
I have almost given up my own Swęboz campaign because the same thing happened with the Ptolemaioi; they became so absurdly strong that I eventually had to fight them.

Yeah the only way i think i can slow rome down in order to destroy my main barb enemy is to go around the roman stacks and start taking there cities behind them and enslaving/destroying the buildings in as many regions as possiable just to stunt there military reinforcements. By the time they rebuild the cities i should already have a fully stacked army ready to push them out. This is easier said then done though.

What are those troops with the big white shields? Not the elite African infantry the other ones.

This is the mighty indo-greek kingdom H/M alex.exe

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

It started out pretty easy. I was able to avoid conflict with the grey death for a while. I conquered kophen from rebels then then went north captured one of the settlements antiochiea something from the saka. i then took chach and immediately built stone walls everywhere i could. This would be extremely useful against the saka. by the time i took the settlement north of kophen which the saka owned. the grey death struck. I had to fight two sieges at bactria before my army could get back. I then conquered south going as far as gabai and persepolis. of course just west of me the parthians where also conquering southern settlements turning the grey death into a grey mess with me parthians and ptolomies taking alot of their settlements. Now i had the parthians to deal with and they were as large as i was. the war started just as i was about to start a campaign towards the indian territories. My army engaged them outside of antiochea-margiaina and although there was success at the begining the parthians started a assassian war. I lost 5 members of the Bactrikos family line and 3 generals i got from allies. the family was almost lost and without a general my army was forced to retreat and i lost alot of men. Luckly i rebuilt got three new bactrios come of age and attacked again. They were beaten in several big battles and were forced to sign peace with just ekabata and susa. I kept them alive to act as a barrier against what was left of the gray death. During this time i sent another general of 2 campaigns with mercenaries against the saka and both even though thier was success to start failed miserably. mostly because i could not afford any serious finacial backing but with the parthian war over and peace through the empire i sent my main army to conquer the indian regions and i built a 2 army of 6 bactrian horse archers 5 hellenic cats 1 general and any mercenaries in the area. The general was the same one from the failed campaigns against them know even though i won im going to obliterate the saka. (Ive had to fight like 2000 sieges against them because i could brake the siege but never destroy their generals so they always came back for more.) and i dont know maybe recreate alexanders empire (Kinda) i dont know. this is also the first campaign ive got to the win screen so im proud.

The Greek cities are doing remarkably well, I've never seen them conquer Anatolia on their own before. It's nothing short of a miracle that they still hold onto Greece and let alone even have Crimea under their control.

Had to reroll my german campaign a third time and am doing well. If it wasnt for the helon greeks coming from the east of Rome i wouldnt of beenable to secure the northern mountains. The only bad thing is that i dont even have 10 regions and i am nearing the end of the game which brings me to the question of when does the game end again?

Default the road to our holy homeland: MAKEDONIA!!

    here it is,

our seleukid kingdom is on tne door of makedonia. if seleukos I nikanor was here he would be very glad.

    this is the seleukid kingdom

the seleukid king is commanding the 3rd Army group on order to march on makedonia (2 armies in thrakia, 1 army in crete, reserve elite cavalry under personnal command of the king) the plan (plan 4: « return at home») is simple: the 3rd army ( under cleitos, brother of the king ) who is commanding a diversion force in crete have the order to seize all the southern greek cities then to stand in the termopylae. the huge makedones phalanx army will be attracted and weaker there. then the 2 armies staionning in trakia, supported by the reserve corps will first cut down pella and ambrakia in order to built a strategic barriere and finally surround the main makedonian forces in thessalia

Epeiros isn't very popular around here, from the looks of it.Reinstalled RTW and EB recently and began a campaign as Epeiros:

Damn Ptolemies-just bringing back my three armies to retrain, then finish the seleucids, and they attack me. Now I have to virtually destory them first.

ALexander EB is much harder than vanilla because of the cursed retraining thing. the rebels can retrain (i think) and most of them have 7 or 8 experience which makes things harder than normal. to make it worse im playing on hard/hard so im losing almost half the battles i fight. if i was not rome i wouldnt be able to have expanded like this at all. the only problem with alx-EB is that the AI finds it hard to expand because of the sheer ferocity of the rebel stacks.

    It's 225BC

    Eastern Front:
The Pahlavans just don't know when to quit.

    Northern Front:
Very peaceful, a good place to live.

    Western Front:
Maks, AS and Ptolemaioi are allies! Maks doing everything to get Masaka, Ptolemaioi already sent 2 full stacks to take Antiocheia but defeated. AS is crumbling.

    Southern Front:
Has nothing but desert, and some isolated AS without leader.

    An almost finished Pan-Caucasus Empire

The future Persian King...perhaps. One thing for sure The Orontid Dynasty will conquer and rule.

A small army just raid Masaka.

An army stationed at Sophene, stopping Maks, AS and Ptolemaioi from entering Hayasdan.

    Punic War will be rewritten...

    Playing as Makedon (M/M) - I won

    see in spoiler for details

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Here is my Capital - Pella with a fairly nice turn over (I keep expenditure high to try and prevent bad habits in my generals). Not doing to badly at the moment, recarving out the Seleucids from the Pahlavas and then will leave them to it.

And as you can see Makedon is the one super power in the world - the Seleucids were getting crushed by Pahlava so I made them vassals, then steam rolled the Pahlava with my veteran elite phalanx supported by my companions, thrakian shock infantry and elite infantry (every single unit inc. generals has a minimum of 1 gold stripe )

Have given them all the way back to india as I have gone and then still had those regions in the Indus valley itself so no worries there - besieging Baktria atm waiting to go over the top next turn

The Egyptians I battered into submission all the way back to Axum then gave them their land and the lands bordering Carthage to make my life easier - I help them out by sacking completely Cathage and the two other cities near Carthage every so often (nice cash bonus )

And well the goat people they besieged Sidon once then asked to be a vassal of mine.......idiots

edit: I have regional armies of a few of my elite units supporting a vast horde of good regional units, they are in:

    Bononia
    Lilibeo
    Segestica
    Massilia
    Buridava
    Kallatis
    Antioch
    Seleukia
    Babylon
    Ekbatana
    Memphis
    Ani-Kamah
And Pella has its own full stack army not veterans, but not too bad who are out on campaign atm crushing some rebels near Byzantium

i think the EB team removed the penalties you get from getting too much income per turn. it all depends on how selfish they are and their tendency to be lazy and wasteful.
