If Christopher Marlowe hadn't died young, would Shakespeare have become as famous as he is today?
The English playwright Christopher Marlowe, born the same year as William Shakespeare (i.e. 1564), was killed at the age of 29 in 1593, allegedly in a drunken brawl. Yet what if he hadn't died so young and continued his career instead? Would he have overshadowed Shakespeare, considering his greater popularity in those times? Not too surprisingly, his plays apparently had a significant impact on those written by Shakespeare.
