Thread: 100% crash after a random amount of turns as Ikana

    Default 100% crash after a random amount of turns as Ikana

    So i tried over 5 campaigns so far as the Ikana faction, everything goes well until my game crashes after a random amount of turns, so far always below 20.
    After loading the autosave or a normal save at the same turn causes the game to crash during the AI's turn.

    I noticed that when i used cheats to get settlements and buildings far faster i could already cause this crash at turn 3.


    Because my medieval II is not creating any crash-log i can just upload my save file.

    I can't seem to get the save file to work.

    If medieval 2 is not generating logs, try adding this block of text to the medieval2.preference.cfg file:

    file = game.script* logs/hyrule.script.log.txt

    M2TW.system.log.txt is the log I'll need, usually the last 10 or so lines point at what's going wrong.

    Thanks, got the logs working.
    I deleted the teutonic campaign files and replaced them with hyrule total war.

    The crash in both cases is definitely caused by adoption, it's looking like a custom trait exclusive to Ikana generals that tedster added into the game might be incorrect, although I don't see anything wrong with his script. As an experiment, find this file in the game: export_descr_character_traits.txt


    search for this block of script:

    Trigger OfferedForAdoption_Faction_Ikana1
        WhenToTest OfferedForAdoption
            Condition CharFactionType ikana
    
    
        Affects IsIkana 1 Chance 100
        Affects FactionIkana 100

    and try deleting it and then starting a new game.

    EDIT: Ahhh yeup, Tedster's script is wrong. This line right here is the problem:

    Change it to
    Affects IsIkanian 1 Chance 100

    Nice catch, it will be fixed in the next version.

    I'm by no means familiar with scripting in Medieval 2's engine, but something with the "Affects" lines is bothering me. Based on this guide for Rome TW ( http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showth...illaries-guide ) shouldn't the syntax be:

    Affects (string for trait name) (integer for trait points assigned) Chance (integer for chance percentage)


    Only the line with Is(faction) has a "chance" function; all others have two sets of integers. Shouldn't it look more like this:

    The problem with the Wizzrobe entry is a leeeetttle bit different:

    As for the syntax, I'm presuming Medieval 2's is just a bit different than Rome's. I'll do a bit more research but I don't think "Chance" actually needs to be there. There's a lot of scripting instances where the game just automatically knows what each number refers to.

    Well i have officially fallen down the rabbit hole on this one. After some poking around various forums, most indications pointed at trait name or description calls not being reflected in the export_vnvs file (mods\Hyrule\data\text\export_vnvs). I found that several wizzrobe affiliated traits (GoodTarder, FactionWizzrobe, and ReligiousActivity) had either no entry in the vnvs or called for none existent descriptions. I can make everything, except ReligiousActivity, work by amending which vnvs entries are called, or adding the necessary entry.

    I tested the effects of these changes by making the chance of each trait 100%. All the "base" adoption triggers were commented out to prevent an accidental CTD if one of those references was a dead-end. I also used "Chance" in each Affects line just to be safe.

    ReligiousActivity is spelled wrong.


    As for the syntax, I'm presuming Medieval 2's is just a bit different than Rome's. I'll do a bit more research but I don't think "Chance" actually needs to be there. There's a lot of scripting instances where the game just automatically knows what each number refers to.

    FactionWhatever and IsWhatever traits are not supposed to actually show up in the game, they are considered "hidden" traits (like the Pope Trait from Medieval 2 for instance). Good Trader should have an entry though.

    I tried the fix for Ikana but for me it did not fix anything I will try again maybe it was not in effect yet or something.

    Putting up a crash log should help me get an idea of what's causing it to crash on your end.

    I may have figured out what it was I think it has something to do with the man of the hour event cause when I accepted it it worked properly I will decline and try and get the crash logs to make sure.

    It's definately trying to adopt generals that's causing the problem. In the file export_descr_character_traits.txt, does the "Trigger OfferedForAdoption_Faction_Ikana1" look like this:
