Thread: English Translation for 1.6

    Icon4 English Translation for 1.6

I've worked on a localization for the new patch, and I have gotten a lot done after I started this this week.

As of now I have translated
    All new units
    All new character names
    All new cities and provinces
All 'expanded' campaign map text (faction selection screen info, castles, agents and so on)

And a couple of other small things.

    Enjoy:

As of yet there are still some things that needs fixing.
Some text may seem raw and unchecked. Mostly the event file is left very much unchanged except for the introductions for the three new factions, and the Norsca alliance events.

    Feel free to criticise.

    Awesome!

Shame it doesn't appear to be compatible with the latest update... CTDed on new campaign start up... such a shame

    It doesn't?

Huh... The text alone can't crash the game, and if there's anything wrong in the text, like incorrect use of backslashes, then, the worst thing that can happen is that the text won't appear in the box at all.

Have you tried the game without the text? Because whatever I try, on my laptop the game will crash in 1 or 2 turns regardless.

AnArmyofAnts, all is good brother. Your time was not wasted and you did not start a paradox. It worked great for me and others that I passed it on to.

Had this problem before.. not sure what caused it. Whenever I started a new campaign with translated files it would crash, however if I would load a saved game, it worked fine.

lol i have with that translation no problems, but still everything is in russian. I tried skaven, except one Unit all russian. Then i checked my characters.. all russian names with russian description.

What have i done. I did the download. Deleted the old text-EN and replaced it with your Version. But like i said.. all still russian.

Oh well, better wait for their next edition because it won't be a long time until we get to see it.

Dont wait for it. Beginning of the end times will be like RoDG 1.5.1 a mod which stands alone.
1.6 is also a stand alone so your effort in translation of that mod and debugging it is not useless.

Right - let me drop a note here about the text-EN folder in RodG : this is the English BACKUP folder. Copying the files into it is perfectly fine BUT you have to run the language selection short cut again, else there will be no update.
For some reason I can't access the download to see if the string.bin files are provided as well. This should be done as there may otherwise be problems with generating new ones due to date stamp issue.

I did now like you said, extract all into the data folder and run selection short cut. The translation worked, but when you start a new campaign, like i said you get a crash to desktop. But it seem to work with saved games.

So there is only one chance. You start a new campaign with the old translation. Save this in the first turn. And play then your game with AnArmyofAnts translation which is by the way really fantastic.

You mean, you cant download the new translation by AnArmyofAnts ?

PS: ok i tested it and got with the translation after 4th or 5th turn crash to desktop tried again with autosave and again after turn crash to desktop. So i think its also not compatible with savegames...

Without a log it's difficult to say what the exact reason is - but changes in the text files are save game compatible, meaning it would affect your save game as well. Without a log I can only hazard a guess that one of the multitude of historic message text might have a slight formatting error. If the original download file can be uploaded somewhere else I could have a go at it and check what possible could be wrong.

I get a blank, white page when I follow the download link, no idea why.

I downloaded the link, extracted to Data, redid the Text English button and it worked! I saw Norsca as Norsca! BUT Tried to start a new game and got Sigma'ed in the loading screen, and it did allow me to start from a previously saved game, but Sigma'ed always on the rebels turn after ending the turn. So it getting it too! Keep it up though.

If you used it on my version then it might be missing the historic_events entry for the 'frozen ui' message - that will create a fatal crash just at the end of the loading screen. Check if this entry exist in the data\text\historic_events.txt file and add it to the bottom of the txt file if it doesn't:
    Code:
{FORCE_FREEZE_BODY}During the time of the forced region change the user interface has been disabled. As soon as the message icons come sliding down on the left everything is back to normal.\n\nThank you for your patience.
    {FORCE_FREEZE_TITLE}User Interface is frozen!
