CTD at battle start up

Hello all,

I purchased M2TW about 2 weeks ago, great game overall but I'm encountering a new problem. I'd been enjoying full functionality for the longest time and it was great. Now, however, whenever I attempt to run a battle of any sort the game goes to the load screen and has the bar go half way and then I get a message that says, "Medieval 2: Total War has suffered an unspecified error and will now be shut down".

Now this started about 3 days ago. Before that, as I said, the game had been running fine with NO problems whatsoever. I don't know what to do... I've tried multiple reinstalls and clean uninstalls and installs and system restores. Any ideas for solutions? Thanks all.

System Specs:

Pentium 4 Processor 3.20 GHz
2 Gbs RAM
ATI Radeon X1950 512 MB with latest drivers
DirectX 9.0c (any more info needed to assist just ask)
