This faction has great potential, on the battle field, in the writing and in its story. Love the work lads!

Out of curiosity, are the pictures in the preview of the Emperor/Heir and their bodyguards up to date?

    Thanks!

I'm going to play Nicaea first.

My first moves will be to drive the Latins out of Asia. I notice that Nicaea starts with a lone settlement in the province of Bithynia; therefore my next move will be to liberate the rest of that province by conquering the other two towns in Bithynia from Trebizond and the Turks. This will give me complete control of the full province of Asia and the full province of Bithynia. Once that is done, I will invade Cilicia and conquer that province from the Turks and the Cicilian Armenians.

At this point, depending on the situation in west and east, I will either turn west and take Constantinople, or I will turn east and take Cappadocia. The first option offers the most glory, but also leaves the empire open to attack in the east. The second option is less glorious but is probably the more sensible choice, since it would complete the conquest of Anatolia and unify the whole region into a strong core heartland which can then be easily defended. If I take the second option, then once Anatolia is unified, the reconquest of Constantinople is all but inevitable anyway.

    Can't wait!

No, they will not use bows. For the early era the empire relies on mercenary cumans and turkomans to cover their need for mounted archery.

Well, even though it does not necessarily show properly on the screenshot, but my varangians have maille, lamellar with pteruges, the same arm and leg protection , the same coif and also to some extent the same helmet, at least like the english varangian in the "1204" picture, so I`ll leave the varangians as they are now.

I dont know how corny or even "esoteric" are fitting words in this case but whatever.
There was no demand, I merely showed these pictures as inspiration for the helmets and asked if there is something similar, so calm your tits.

Strategos is suitable because it means General. And the term theme by that time wa still in use in name only, still used until the fall of the Constantinopol in 1453ad.

So Basileus's guards and Strategos's guards are the best pics for those units.
I know this thread is about the roster, but I can't help but comment on the titles.

Of course, Nicaean Emperors thought of themselves as the legitimate Emperors of Rome (as did the Megas Komnenoi in Trapezous) so Basileus as a title for faction leaders is an obvious and sound choice. But as for the faction heir, at least in Nicaea and Trapezous, it should be a Symbasileus (co-Emperor). Roman "Middle Ages" Emperors usually crowned their sons and heirs as Emperors themselves, with degrees of seniority amongst them (for example, Basil II grew up in the shade of Nikephoros Phocas and John Tzimiskes, both "senior Emperors" in his lieu; also, Costantine Porphyrogennetos shared the title of Emperor with Romanos Lekapenos and two of his sons); Alexios made John II Komnenos his co-Emperor, and so on. Symbasileus fits the most, in my opinion.

As for Epeiros, since the faction leader is technically a Despotes, his faction heir should either be a "Sebastokrator" (a title court, I know, forged to honour Alexios Komnenos' senior brother and right-hand man) meaning "ruling over nobles" or a Strategos (which is generic for "General", but since a "Despotes" in itself isn't an Emperor, it is understandable if his heir is titled with a title usually in the middle of the long list of Byzantine court and military titles)

    Just my two, inopportune cents.
