Thread: RodG 1.6 - Easy and painfree Installation

  1. #481

Default Re: RodG 1.6 - Easy and painfree Installation

Installed everything as told in the guide. I am 100% positive I did everything correct.(I am a Systems Administrator for Windows/Linux IRL, so I can probably provide extensive insight if needed.)

I am trying to start a Chaos Dwarf Campaign and it crashes on the Map Loading. I will try other factions now and report back if its just a Chaos Dwarven problem.

    Heres my log-- M2TW.system.log.rar

Heres a DXDIAG of my System. DxDiag.txt

Further info: I am running the kingdoms.exe in compability for windows 8, since medieveal (vanilla and other DLC) crashe when I dont.

    Regards,
    Wiaf

I cant edit yet, but heres my Update.

I tried Dwarfs & Sylvana also. Does not work.

I have UAC disable atm and there are no ME2 files to be found in my virtualization in C:/User/AppData/Local/Virtualization

Ive skimmed the logs, to me it looks like there is some major part missing as it cant find tons of mod files.

    -Regards again, Wiaf

I've given up all hopes for this mode. I've followed exactly the directions.

    1. Medieval 2/Kingdom patched to latest updates, yadayada.
    2. Install all three installers one at a time starting 1, making my way down to 3.
    3. Install the patches starting from 1. Then selecting English, then the patch 2 then select english.
    4. Crash while loading campaign. ALWAYS, no matter what factions.

Then I uninstall and played with just no patches and guess what. Magically worked except oh wait, crashed always at turn 13.

That didn't even work for me. I tried every iteration of the install.

    Basic, Basic + English, Patch 1, Patch 1 + English, Patch2, Patch2 + English, Hotfix1, Hotfix1 + English, Hotfix2, Hotfix2 + English. To no avail. Could not load the campaign for a single turn :/ Crashes everytime.

I figure out a fix to the common problems. READ THESE BOLD INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

Download all the stuff you needs (obvious)

    1. Install the core games by selecting in order 1, 2, 3 DO NOT SELECT MODS, MAKE SURE IT POINTED AT THE GAME FOLDER

Ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Medieval 2 Total War Gold <-- Example of a correct path
    Ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Medieval 2 Total War Gold/mods <--- NOT A CORRECT PATH

    2. Install patch #1 first then launch your language ex: Select ENG then install patch #2 then again select the SAME languages you wants to use again ex: ENG
    3. Install the hot fixes, starting from the bottom first (the oldest hotfix most likely to be safe), but most likely doesn't matter.

The game will still crash, the reason? The .bat file is denied access to kingdoms.exe
YOU MUST BE ADMINISTRATOR TO DO THIS OR YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK

Find your kingdom's folder this is easy by right clicking on RodG shortcut and selecting 'Open File location'

Click on the program files path to to something like this -->: Ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\ look for your medieval folder and select it, right click, and do the following:

    Select PROPERTIES
    Select SECURITY

You should see an option that said 'To change permission click Edit'

    Select Edit
    Select Users (ex: Plattytheplatypus-PC)
Select Full control or all the options listed.
    Select Apply then Okay

You might get the game to work and load just fine, but now it's in a small window box. This is how you change it.

Right click on RodG 1.6 and go to 'Open File Location' and look for Configuration

Change THESE options to these. Save and replace with only these changes and you're good to go. I hope I helped people.
    [video]movies = 1
    windowed = false
    borderless_window = false

I installed all of the files and patches into my main folder(running a steam version btw). Upon launching it shows the loading menu and then I get the error popup saying "Sigma preserve us, Chaos has taken over! Closing the gates to save our souls!"

    That's my log

    Did you do the following:
    1. Do have Kingdoms install? And all that important stuff.
    2. Did you install in order from the main .exes of 1, 2, 3, and in number order from lowest to highest. Then installed patch 1 first, then select the ENG launcher to set your languages, then patch 2 then again the ENG launcher
    3. Did you install the hotfixes after?
    4. By loading do you mean loading a campaign game or loading the game in general?

    Two things comes to mind.

    (1) Have you installed Medieval 2 in the C/ folder (ie: the normal path)? If you've installed it anywhere else - that could cause trouble (did for me).

    (2) When you run the "Eng Text" file, does it say anything unusual, like "Acess Denied"?

I am convinced that security permissions is one of tha main reasons why the mod doesn't work for some people (the other being not following instructions).
After several days of installing, uninstalling, manually copying and editing files to bypass security, I finally got my game to run. I'm currently at turn 21, and I haven't had a single crash in that campaign.
It's a good mod, and I think it's worth the extra hassle. Thank you, Gigantus, for your hard work to make it accessible to us!

Seems like you're missing key files do you have: Medieval 2 (1.3 latest), Kingdoms (with at least ONE expansion installed) and patched to 1.5?

Sorry, the forums is being a jag and messing me up.

Here: ind your kingdom's folder this is easy by right clicking on RodG shortcut and selecting 'Open File location'
