Thread: MTW2 is now out for Mac, how to get SS to work?

Default MTW2 is now out for Mac, how to get SS to work?

Just a couple of days ago Medieval TW 2 was released on the App Store, so finally i get to play it on my Mac! And of course the first thing i wanted to do was Stainless Steel, unfortunetly, i cant get it too work, no matter what i try. Any suggestions?

I cant get the installer to work properly because Macs dont have the same C: directory etc needed for it to install itself, i have to just make it dump all the files on my desktop and manually place them where they need to be. Help is much appriciated

Since MTW will get a small surge now that all the Mac guys will start buying it, maybe it would be time to make a small installation guide for Mac?

i don't have a mac. But what happens when you run the installer? It won't start at all or you just do not know where to direct the install path?

If it was me I'd install it in a windows enviroment (either a shell program or a seperate computer/os) then just copy over the completely installed 6.3 folder in the mod folder. But you might not have that option.

Ok i found how to get SS (and other mods i guess) to work on the new App Store Version of MTW2:

    1. Download the mod you want, and open the installer using a program like Wine.
    2. Just make a folder on your desktop and install all the mod files in there.
    3. Move the folder "SS6.3" (or something like that, the entire mod anyways) into the Mod folder where the 4 Kingdoms campaigns are.
    4. Launch Medieval Total War 2, and in the Launcher Option window, go to the "Advanced" tab at the top of the window.
    5. Toggle the box that says "Advanced options" and in the text area right next to the box write "--features.mod=mods/NAME OF THE MOD FOLDER", so for my SS mod it would be "--features.mod=mods/ss6.3"
    6. Enjoy

Trying this on the Steam version, I do get the SS launch screen but it then immediately closes. Any clues?

Do you know if it's different for the Steam version? Because when I try to launch it the game instantly closes.

I think you'll also need --io.file_first=true and --io.disable_file_cache=true to bypass .pack files. Here it tries to link with libSDL2_ttf.so.0. When I solve this dependency problem, I get a different error.

Ignore last post. I got some success on Linux by converting all file and folder names to lowercase.

by all file and folder names do you mean every one concerning medieval 2 total war or do you mean just the ones for Stainless steel, also do we still need to add that part in advanced for the mod to work on steam?
Wil you play the game? the game of thrones.

I mean all the mod files and folders, including the main folder (change "SS6.3" to ss6.3").

And yes, I needed to add "--features.mod=mods/ss6.3" to the launch options.

    (mods folder is inside <root_m2tw_dir>/share/data/)

I'm having a terrible time at this, and don't know if I'm doing any of it correctly. I've downloaded the torrent for MOD ss6.3 and have it on my desktop, but I can't get Wine to work properly or something.

Is there any chance that someone can make a video of this process or post a link to a video that is preforming this process?

Seconded. I couldn't get the Wine approach to work either. Any good samaritan care to post a video walkthrough? I'd love to try SS for myself.

Ok so im very bad with computers, and medieval 2 total war is the only game i play, so i really want to try out the SS'mod.
So far i have a folder filled with files such as ''SS.3-1.bin'' and so on.
So i guess i am at point 3 at your list right?
The point that says ''move the folder "SS6.3" (or something like that, the entire mod anyways) into the Mod folder where the 4 Kingdoms campaigns are''.
But what do you mean by moving the whole folder into the Mod folder where the 4 kingdoms are? where do i find that mod folder?
I would really appreciate your help.
    Best regards:
    A total technical noob

Seconding this. Have the App Store version, and can't find any way to get 6.4 working. Everything I've found on Mac is meant for Steam users.

I gather from your post you've gotten it to work. I can't quite figure out what he means at step 16 with the SS6.3 directory. I can't seem to find that directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated (https://crstanier.co.uk/journal/18-i...sion-for-macos).
