    Default Disraeli Gears - Cream

    Disraeli Gears - Cream
    Genre: Psychedelic Rock
    Year: 1967

    Background Information

Disraeli Gears is the second album by British blues-rock group Cream. It was originally released in November 1967 and went on to reach #5 on the UK album chart. It was also their American breakthrough, becoming a massive seller there in 1968, reaching #4 on American charts. The album features the two singles "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love". By this time, the group was veering quite heavily away from their blues roots to indulge in more psychedelic sounds.

    22. "Steppin' Out" (Bracken) – 3:37

Now that we have our lengthy introduction out of the way, I would like to talk about the songs. Disraeli Gears is without a doubt the definitive psychedelic album of 1967. 'Sunshine Of Your Love' opens with a universally known guitar riff, one which I instantly recognised even though I was an absolute music newbie at the time. 'Blue Condition' is an interesting exception in that Cream's drummer, Baker, takes the vocals this time around. 'Tales Of Brave Ulysses' is a poem written by the Australian artist Martin Sharp for the group and is generally regarded as being one of Cream's strongest songs.
The only songs I have a particular dislike are for 'Outside Woman Blues', 'Take It Back' and 'Mother's Lament'. The first two having the sound of a completely different genre than was intended for the album and the last which has lyrics spoken by all three in a Cockney accent.

If anyone is looking to listen to this group's music, then Disraeli Gears is easily the most accessible album as it doesn't have the heavy blues feel of Wheels Of Fire that may put some listeners off.

    Rating: 9/10

10/10 From me. A great, strong variety of songs. (Tales of Brave Ulysses is my favourite Cream song)

I was gong to do a review on Disraeli gears sometime, but I never had the time to.

I'm suprised Octavian didn't do this review first.

Anyways, this indeed looks like a great album. I might pick it up sometime, after I sell some stuff.:hmmm:

Eh, Disraeli Gears is great (and a really awesome cover art, one of my favourites), but if you're just being introduced to Cream and really want a good CD, get "The Very Best of Cream"

    That = creepy.

I love Cream, and I love most of the songs you have on there, I can agree the Bluesy stuff is out of place, but damn, Outside Woman Blues is oh so nice...

9/10, for pretty much the same reasons as you... make that 9-1/2 out of ten cuz Brave Ulysees and Sunshine take it up just that much more.

4 Real. I looked at your join date and I new we didn't have any old members called Livia

Still though, that's kind of wierd

World of Pain is good though......and Blue Condition is, personally, really catchy. I like Ginger Baker's voice. It's kind of plain, but there's just something to it.

    10 out of 10

This is probably my favorite album next to Led Zeppelin II, The Darkside of the Moon, and Van Halen.

Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Dance the Night Away, SWLABR, Blue Condition...just amazing.

And of course Ginger Baker looks like he's tripping on a serious amount of acid.....like always

Lol, every one of their old concerts, Baker looks completely mangled on something...

Pressed Rat and Warthog, Ginger's voice is just so.... British, I guess.
