Thread: Kingdom of Israel

    Default Kingdom of Israel

Having the Kingdom of Israel as a faction would be great.
There is a known genealogy of kings, starting from David.
There are also many known name of officials.

For historical research help, you can always contact one of the many universities in Israel. They all speak English.

Israel eventually split into Israel (north) and Judah (south).
Israel (north) was defeated and taken over by Assyria.
Judah (south) was defeated and taken over by Babylon

The kingdom of Israel lasted from 1050-930 BC, with debate on the historicity of it.

It is barely inside of our timeperiod, which is why it is not already included.

First of all - it's out of the mod's timeframe. And second - Bible is not a reliable source because it was written even later and for clear propaganda purpose. Most probably there was no such thing as united monarchy - there were always two separate states of Israel and Judah.

    Rebel faction(s)?

There will be both AoR canaanites, and rebel canaanites, but canaanites =/= Israelites until just at the end of our period, and even then its murky.

Ah, that is quite a shame.
Even though the Bible isn't a reliable historical source, it would have been an interesting faction, regardless.

There is not a single arqueological evidence of the existance of a Judish kindgom, only on their religion. And the term Israel has 100 years so its even less realistic.

Well...to be totally fair the first named reference to Israel is the Merenptah stele from the 13th century BC, but it is not in the context of a major kingdom ruling all or most of Canaan.

LOL, where have you read that? There are tons of archeological evidence of existence of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. "Israel" is mentioned in the Bible more than 600 times (and Bible is quite old, older than 100 years you know). There are documents from neighbouring countries about these kingdoms. And there's, mentioned by Dontfearme22 Merenptah stele where is the oldest written example of the "Israel" name. So... whoever told you that ridiculous arguments - he was obviously lying. Ask yourself why he did that.

Hooooooooold on that train of thought there friend-o

There is definitely evidence no doubt for Israel as a kingdom, but there is a big gulf between people just getting something wrong, or not knowing the right information, and deliberately hiding information to manipulate thought.

I can understand the aspect that this is a little after the bronze age time period. However the Bible is a reliable historical source as it can be backed up by historical events of the time period. When The Kingdom of Israel, 10 of the tribes rebelled from Rehoboam the heir of Solomon and that is became the Kingdom of Israel (aka northern kingdom). The tribe of Judah had the crown and was able to keep Jerusalem and the more southern areas. It mentions who was king, how long each king ruled, and how well they ruled. Propaganda? Not very many sources mention the greatest vices of even their best leaders.

I think it would be a great idea to add the Kingdom of Israel in this mod. It would draw alot of attention good and bad. There is nothing wrong with just trying.

Regardless of the attention it may garner, our goal is to represent the time period as accurately as possible. At the earliest, the Kingdom of Israel emerged in the 11th century bc, which is 4 centuries after the start of the campaign.
