Thread: The Guild 3 (2016)

    Default The Guild 3 (2016)

One of my most anticipated games of 2016, along with Mount & Blade 2

    What we know so far:

    - it's going to be released next year; the closed-beta test will probably start during Q1, followed by an open beta
    - it's being developed by Golem Labs and Nordic Games, which over the years has acquired important franchises from defunct companies (JoWood, THQ, DreamCatcher)
    - Guild 3 is going to use the same engine as Darksiders and Warhammer 40k: Space Marines
    - the most popular features from the previous games in the series will definitely make a comeback
    - the maps will be at least ten times bigger than those from Guild 2.
    - there will be at least fifteen professions, excluding the ones added through expansions. Confirmed: Farmer, Baker, Gravedigger, Tailor, Stonemason, Thief, Carpenter, Doctor, Blacksmith, Guardsman, Alchemist. Priest class is no longer available, as the churches have been transformed into public buildings.
    - each profession will have different production skill trees, which means the player can opt for different specializations within the same profession.
    - the seasons will play a crucial role in the production process
    - the number of building interiors will be limited; hopefully more will be added through the expansions
    - the developers want to achieve a balance between the entrepreneurial and the dynastic aspects of the game; the player will have to consider both these core elements in the long run
    - unlike in Guild 2, the player will control only one character, the head of the dynasty, which probably will have the power of life and death over the rest of the family members, akin to CK2
    - if a character is childless, he can adopt an orphan
    - some skills/traits are innate, and will be passed to others of the same dinasty
    - the number of character attributes will be reduced to five, instead of ten
    - the player will start out his business in his own hut, since he will have few funds at his disposal at the beginning of the game
    - the presence of secret societies and their ranks, which will be made available later in the game
    - the city will present itself in a more organic and realistic manner: the cities will be divided into districts; the building space will be more organized, while the buildings themselves will be taller, with lots of expansions as they level up; placing a thieves guild around a housing area will essentially (and visually) turn that zone into a slum, therefore the player will immediately acquire a lot of info on a certain area as soon as he sees the general aspect of the buildings pertaining to that district. New quarters will be added to the city as it grows. The global events will influence the development of the city (immigrants ).
    - each city will have more than one market, most likely one per district
    - bridge tolls and other similar taxes according to their medieval equivalents
    - sea trading
    - the highest position achievable by the player will probably be that of Lord of the Land (check out that pic below); this position cannot be inherited
    - the introduction of quests and mini-missions
    - multiplayer for 12-16 players
    - powerful global editor + extensive moddability
    - no more Lua scripting, most of the stuff in the game can be adjusted by modifying the notepad files

I think this game will be visually stunning:

    bustling city
    carpenter's shop
    abandoned street during the day
    same street at night
    random citizen
    farmer
    stonemason's shop
    random woman
this castle belongs to the most powerful nobleman of the land, who will usually oppose the city's officials
    doctor's clinic
    thieves' guild

Can't say that I'm impressed. Early access coming out at the end of this month.
