Actually, this is the idea I have with my mod, but I need help with the campaign map. I'd like to have from India to Japan. is there anyone that can help me in that?

I've made some guides on how to edit the map:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...split-a-region
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-new-land-mass

Such a huge project will require a lot of work.

I know you made those wonderful tutorials. But, as I am working alone, its a bit difficult to do everything. Weierstrass was creating an expanded FOTS map (I am currently using his map), but I don't think he wants to do the mapping for that project.

Unfortunately I do not have the time to make such a complex map. It took months of research and modding just to add China and Korea.

I'm also not sure how well a map of this scale would work as my Morning Sun mod was as large as I could make the map and many things didn't work correctly (buildings and radar). As the max size for FotS is smaller than the Shogun campaign you may end up with very small regions representing Japan.

Below are a few examples of what the map would be like.

    FotS max size, realistic proportions.

Hey Unanime5, the map you represent is close what I want to have, but probably 50% can be put away.

This is how I want it in the game. What do you think about and is it realistic?

Since the width is the same all you'll end up doing is reducing the map height and removing the western regions. This will reduce how much work you need to do (fewer regions = less work) but it won't make any of the regions larger since the overall proportions will remain the same.

Regarding your selection large parts of China will be unplayable, so China may end up being weaker than it could be because it has few regions. If you don't include Mongols or Jurchens then China won't need to guard their north or west borders because their won't be anyone who can attack them. Also if they only have a one region southern border with Vietnam this will make it very easy to defend this border.

I've also made some more maps to give you a better perspective on how the new map will differ from the old one.

This map shows how large Japan is in the Boshin campaign.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This maps shows how much smaller you'll need to make Japan in your mod. So Japan may end up being reduced from 75 regions to 9-10 regions.

Actually, I only want Japan to have like 10 regions. Because my plan is only to have 2 factions in Japan (Tokugawa Shogunate (North) and Empire of Japan (South)) Mostly in the Boshin Era, China was already weakened by the European powers. The battles around China, where most on the coastline or for ports. I don't want all of China or Mongolia, as it is not related to the mod I built. So indeed they will be impassible. But what is your suggestion?

My suggestion is that if you want this sort of map is to create the entire map, make each faction a one region faction, and gradually add more regions. I recommend trying to make the entire map first to ensure that you get the proportions of each country correct, that way you won't have to make huge changes later on.

For testing you can only include the settlement and farm in each region; and leave the roads, trade routes, towns, and ports for when the map is more developed.

Thanks for the advice, will surely take a note from this.
Actually, how did you implement new campaign (building) models in game? Because I'd like to add new Castles(forts) on the campaign map.

You need to make a new building model using 3D max and convert it to a rigid model file using the official tools. Then add the new building to the warscape_rigid DB table and assign it to a building in the building_culture_variants.

One last question about the mapping. What if you enlarge the region map of FOTS? Or are you restricted to the vanilla size that you can view in the 3dsMax raw data file?

It may be possible to enlarge the map region. Though you'd need to test this by first editing the DB tables campaign_maps and campaign_map_playable_areas, then remake all the esf files.

Actually, how do you know the exact amount of values of the playable area?

Thanks for the info, I did successfully added a new region (only settlement and town). But it works. Now, how can I export a height map from 3DSMax, so than I know exactly where the terrain starts and where the water begins. I know you created a guide about adding a new landmass, but I have no idea how to export that to Photoshop for example (this is only for new landmasses).

I took several screencaps, combined them, coloured where the water was, and enlarged the image to the correct size. I don't know if it's possible to export a height map.

What about UV coordinates and export the map (Regions map)? Could that work?
