Must be because the ambushing army attacks the other - so zone of engagement didn't include the allied army it was around the Hungary units

Guys, you know what's funny, I wasn't in ambush position when I ended my turn... And I reloaded my my turn after positioning that army there several times. But I'll just swallow this defeat, even though it's kinda ridiculous. I'm guessing that army is now stuck with the Danes, who shouldn't have the slightiest problem defeating it.
