Default Should infantry charge values be decreased?

In the current system, a charging infantry unit will inflict serious damage to a bracing infantry unit.

    Is this really appropriate?

A prepared and densely formed infantry unit awaiting an attack will get absolutely no bonus or upper hand from its defensive state and the player actually has to order units to counter charge the charging units to mitigate this.

I understand that charge values must be present as it simulates the momentum of an assault, but for a bracing unit to get their front rank annihilated irregardless of the fact they have their shields raised and are prepared/braced to receive that charge seems a bit immersion breaking.

    Thoughts?

I always wondered what purpose the 'bracing' state served. None, apparently. I agree, a bracing unit should get an advantage against a charging one, not the other way around.

Bracing (to my knowledge) is a feature of the [EDU] attributes spear and light_spear, which has no beneficial impact on infantry but only cavalry; or, actually, spear even give a penalty against other infantry.

All units brace though, even the ones without spears. And it does them no good at all.

Not to mention that charging is stupid since it would screw up your formation and cause you to run into the enemy's weapons.

Has anyone tested the effects of bracing? By receiving a charge into a unit while bracing, then while counter-charging and comparing the results? With spear units and non-spears, to see if that makes a difference.

Whoa...I remember when I had more rep than Ngugi...back in 2010.

With infantry it's all the same, you have to counter charge or you will suffer a lot of casualties from the enemies charge.

Basically, whoever gets hit by a charging front rank of a unit that gets the charge bonus, usually dies.

I am considering reducing the charge bonus to a flat 1 across the board.

Could always go back to the Rome: Total War "bracing" values which worked insanely well.... often impossibly well.
