online custom battles?

Hello forum, Ive recently started playing Third Age: Total War and im loving it so far, tho im starting to get tired of AI and would love to play some online custom battles if thats possible. ive searched through the internet but cant seem to find any solution tho ive seen people playing it online custom battle on youtube. my medieval 2 kingdoms is a non steam version.

It should work if your opponent has the Exact same version (both M2TW and TATW). Connect to eachother with a program like Hamachi (or something similar) and play choose to play LAN battles in the TATW Menu.
When I have played other games using this method, our names have just popped up in the lobby and we've invited eachother and played.

Never done this with TATW before but Can't see why it shouldn't work.
