Hi everybody,
I don't really know how big the Rome: Total War community is on Mac, but I decided to give this a go anyway. As an avid fan of RTW, I can understand why modding RTW is so fun. I got RTW for my mac a while back but unfortunately it was almost impossible to find full modifications for this game that are compatible with the operating system. After a great deal of searching, I could only find two mods compatible with mac: Europa Barbarorum and Rome: Total Realism- Platinum Edition. While those mods are great, mods like RTR VII, XGM, and Hegemonia: City States caught my eye but with their installers being .exe's I found it impossible to run them. Now, after many weeks, I am pleased to say that I have finally discovered a way to install "foldered" modifications on RTW mac. Without further ado, let's get started:
1. Have a clean version of Rome: Total War on your desktop.
2. You will need to convert the RomeData.dmg from "read only" to "read/write." Below is the link to a Feral Interactive video that will show you how to do so. Make sure you follow it carefully.

3. Next, you will need to download the program WineBottler, which will allow you to run the mod installers. Here is the link for download: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ (Make sure you download the one that says 1.6.1 Stable)
4. Follow the instructions in the read-me and set WineBottler up on your computer.
5. Find the download for the installer of the modification you would like to play and download the .exe file.
6. Double click it. Assuming you have set up WineBottler correctly, a window that says "You are about to open a Wine file." Select the second button that says "Convert to simple OS X Application bundle with WineBottler." and then hit "Go" at the bottom of the window.
7. A yellow window will appear. The second prompt in bold print will say "Program to install:" Write the place you want to send the file in the command line (Desktop would be best). Select the third button below that which says "This is the actual program, copy it and all files that are in the same folder." Leave everything else in this window the same and hit the button that says "Install" at the bottom of the window. A prompt will appear for you to name the program. Do so and hit "Save".
8. Wait while it installs (2-5 minutes max). The application will then appear on your desktop so double-click it and wait for it to open.
9. Follow the instructions for installation and try to divert all files being installed to your desktop. Wait for this to finish.
10. The mod folder will now appear on your desktop. Drag that folder into the new RomeData disk image you created in step 1 (That's the white colored disk that appears after you click the one that has the extension .dmg)
11. Start up RTW or BI and enter the command "-mod:modName" in the command line under advanced options.
12. Hit play and enjoy!
I am not sure how much impact this will have or how much good it will do, but it provided me with a great deal of fun and I hope it does the same for you. Message me if you have any problems and I'll be happy to help!
Thanks again,
Auggie
