nope! even tried it with compatibility mode! the game doesn't even start if compatibility mode is enabled... and if it is disabled the normal rome launches without any GEM effects!

Wow! that's a pity because it was my main concern for moving to Windows 10. I suppose that the main problem is that Windows 10 contains Directx 12.

Thanks for the info mate. I was afraid it would happen.

Let's hope that an update of GEM will be made

When you say compatibility mode do you mean in GEM or have you used Windows 8.1 compatibility mode of Windows 10? I think that the difference is important.

And Rome II also doesn't launch?

This is a trouble for me. I always like having my OS updated, but on the other side I hate Rome 2/Attila without GEM.

If I had never played Rome 2/Attila with GEM perhaps I'd like their vanilla graphics. But I prefer Shogun 2/Empire graphics than Rome vanilla graphics!

Also have you installed Windows 10 from the ground or just an update? (from a Windows 8.1 that allowed you playing with GEM, so you have all the libraries required).

    Thanks for your time mate

I installed it as an update, not a clean install. Also, I agree, I think vanilla Empire looks better than Vanilla Rome in a few ways. Rome 2 doenst work either.

Thanks again for your answers. It seems we'll have to wait if Lucifer blesses us with an update for Windows 10

    Hi guys,

I will try compatibility of GEM in the final release of Windows 10 with the latest appropriate drivers etc installed and leave my feedback. This may take some time (approx a week) because I need to run a couple of other tests too (regarding upgrade scenarios and what really happens to the keys / activation)

Hey guys. This is not an official announcement but I think its a good time to give some information on the future of GEM.

As many of you probably already know, I am working a lot on the ReShade Framework which did not give me time to do anything else. However, I got a bit of extra time currently to think about what to do with GEM. My current point of view is that GEMFX (the generic GEM) cannot do as much or more than ReShade -which is why I started working on the ReShade Framework in the first place-. Therefore, the generic version of GEMFX will be discontinued. However, I will go back to the roots with GEM, which is Total War (and maybe some side projects in the future). It will be something I do besides the ReShade Framework and its generic approach so I dont compete with myself :-P

The first thing I actually wanted to do is finish the BM overhaul of R2 but there is no concrete plan about how I use my time yet.

On subject of windows 10, if Rome II works then also GEM for Rome II should be possible but I would either need to install/upgrade windows 10 myself (though I have already 7 and 8.1 on my machine) or need the help of someone with time at his hand to help me find the solution/tweaks in the binaries to make it work :-)

Since this is only a quick heads up, there will be an official announcement coming soon.

I currently have Windows 8.1, in the case you wouldn't want upgrading to Windows 10 or there wasn't any volunteer I'd go to Windows 10 and work with you despite i'm not an expert in this stuff

well at least in the benchmark i got from 53.7 fps avg on maxed out settings to 69.7 fps! (GPU: GTX 970 SLI (only one card was running on the bench cause total war games do not really profit from sli! CPU bottlenecks easier if enabled! CPU: I5 4670k overclocked @ 4.3 Ghz)

Hey Lucifer, if you need W10 tester - I'm open to help you, as playing R2 and Atilla without GEm is pain in the $$$.
    p.s.
Don't know if it's a bug, but since I updated to W10 from W8.1, in graphics menus of both recent TW games I see that available Vram is 3072, while both my cards are 2gb GTX 680. I also noticed that I get major FPS increase while lowering texture quality from ultra to high. I have disabled Screen Space reflections, shadows set to high, textures set to high, no AA, no depth of field - and I get 65 fps average in benchmark

If this is true, good to hear that. If the performnace is increased it's a good way updating to Windows 10.
