Hi again! Vikus and I thought it was time again to give you a little teaser on the faction descriptions. It is my honour to present to you my work on my friends that live around the see of Rhûn: the savage Balchoth! Not only will you see the faction description here, but as well I shall give you another small present for christmas, but first of all: that description.

    Balchoth

Rhûn. The far east, the land of which little is known by the peoples to the west. It is a harsh land of plains and wilderness. There are droughts there, who would slay all who are meek. The land is not fertile here, we cannot herd cattle and live a cosy and warm life like the accursed Dalians can. No: we must hunt, we must loot, we must kill, to survive! And survived we have for a long time! We are NOT meek. We are ferocious. We will fight anyone who stands in our way: man, elf, even fellow Easterling. We should be feared, and feared we are, by those who know us from the past. We encountered the peoples of the west on the field of battle, and from the field of battle, indeed, some know us, and from there, they remember us: a harsh folk, not afraid of war, and as ferocious, strong, and resilient, they saw us!
Oh yes, from that they hence forth, on the fields of Celebrant, we would never again be overlooked! Our warriors stood there to take good lands to the west, on the eastern banks of the river Anduin we stood, and we crossed that river, assailing the garrison of Gondor. We would have overwhelmed them, if Cirion had not come to their aid! Curse him! Curse Gondor, and all of Númenor! Yet still, though with great losses, and with aid of orcs from the mountains, we drove him off. We pushed him back, we crossed the river with success. Victory, was at hand! But that day, long ago, was not meant to be ours. As with all great battles involving free peoples, they were lucky! A horse-riding, straw-headed, meddler came with a large host, splitting us from the orcs, driving both of us back, and the day was lost. But never forgotten, or forgiven.
It has been long, since we were defeated. All could have been ours: riches, loot, new lands, the men of the west, dead, their stinking corpses flowing down the Anduin, so that the people of Gondor could watch their fallen rotting in the water, forever lost in the sea, never to rest in peace, but it was not so. We were pushed back to the lifeless lands to the east, to live there again, on dry lands, in the inclement desert-winds, on plains without food or any resources, bah! We could have lived on the green plains which are now called ‘Rohan’, given to those very horsemen that defeated us, by that steward of Gondor, as if it was his to give! It should have been ours!
But we have not had the strength to march to war once again. We waited. We were forgotten. Our name went from being one of fear, into something meaningless, like the breeze over the plains, ever without any message, or life. ‘Balchoth’, became a name folk had never heard of. But we did not linger. We waited, for we knew, one that had promised us much, would return once, to set the world ablaze once more. And that day came indeed: the One returned.
From afar, we saw the spirit of Sauron move from Dol Guldur south to Mordor: what a sight it was, that glow: deep red: full of fire, and hatred. It stirred us, and we awoke, for we knew, darkness had returned! Soon, Sauron would look to us to aid him in his cause. He would see us mustering again, arming ourselves, readying for war: his war, in which we would gladly assist him: it will come swift as the wind, as our horses ride, onto the undoing of the accursed peoples from the west!
For this war will be different than ever before: greater and more devastating than the free peoples could ever imagine! Nothing will be the same after the Great Storm has raged! It’s destruction will be remembered forever, and we shall take part in it, and emerge victorious, as we should have been long before! All our enemies shall suffer: their pain will be our pleasure. The cities of Gondor, shall burn! The plains of Rohan shall be scourged! The men of Dale and their wretched allies under the Mountain shall be undone, their riches, taken by our warriors! The elves will flee back to the west from whence they came: beware! Beware the storm that will come from the East! All shall fall before us: none will escape us! Prepare for the onslaught! Prepare, to be trampled in the dust! Westrons: prepare for your last doom!

And as promised, a short announcement: the writing/rostering team has got something nice up the sleeve for the Easterlings: we plan to split the easterlings up in three factions, one of which is the Balchoth-clan, the other ones being the Wainriders and the Variags. All these live a tribal life and are quite crude and not very well-armoured, but still numerous and thus quite playable. However, from the beginning of the campaign, there will be a overlapping goal for your Easterling faction: unite all Easterlings under one banner! Sauron will undoubtebly have his influence on the process as well. The rewards will be awesome: the great unit from Empremi you've seen and the other epic units, will be available to you as a confederation from the East! And then, you will find that the peoples of the west will look upon you in awe and terror! It will give you that same feeling like you would reunite Arnor. Have fun with the Easterlings, or holding of the storm from the East, (if you can...)!

Again, welcome from the Tower of Ecthelion

Do you hear it? It's voice comes running deeply on the sea-ward wind. Tis the horn call of Gondor, the trump of the lords of the west! It's song echoing greatly off the plains of Pelenor, born swiftly from the Tower of Ecthelion. Gondor, Gondor! Yea the realm of the kings of old yet stands tall against the great shadow. The west wind bears the call, beckoning from Andros to the Sundering Sea the sons of Elendil, the White Tree, the Tower of Ecthelion; Gondor, Gondor yet stands!

This was the Realm of Kings, the once proud and great kingdom of men; but alas, proud heritage and many tales are not enough to pillar a kingdom. For Gondor is now fallen into ruin. Its once high towers now abandoned, and its great fortresses left to decay. Our people are loosing hope, and as its soldiers fall to the blades of Orcs and Southrons, its cities that once shown with the splendor of Numenor crumble to the earth. The Tower of the Moon is now rent with shadow and the city of Kings darkened with an empty thrown, Gondor no longer has the strength to repel the Enemy or ensure the safety of its lands...Few now have the courage to endure the darkness, much less the courage to fight.. For we are surrounded, the Eastern sky has grown dark, Mordor is mustered against us. And still yet more oppose us: In the south the Haradrim seek ever to cross the Anduin into our lands, and Easterlings from the Brown Lands raid our villages to the north. For all these foes, we have few allies. Rohan in the West has long been our greatest friend, but I fear they will not be long unchecked. The Northern Kingdom, Arnor has long been a waste land, and neither elves or dwarves will have the will or power to aid us...we are alone, alone in the ever looming night.

Yet greater then all these troubles is the shadow that has fallen upon these lands, which no mighty horn echoed from high tower can expel. Only the might of a king could drive this darkness away and see the White Tree bloom again. But hope yet lingers. Whispers of an heir to the throne in the north are flowing through the cities, and legends of a great weapon of the Enemy have also reached the ears of the Stewards. But while the men look for their forgotten king and the Stewards search for their hidden salvation, the lines of the enemy move ever forward, Who now will stand and defy the armies of Mordor? The sons of Isildur and Elendil now quake at the Evil of Sauron, they look for one who will lead them, a true captain of men. One in whom the glory of ancient kings anew is displayed, unveiled in the glory of valor, one who would lead them to the Tower of Barad Dur itself, But alas, such heroes have faded into legend. Men of valor are remembered only in songs and tales, there are few now who would deny the reign of the Dark Lord to any avail.

Yet captain, though foes beset us, there are still those in whom the blood of our forefathers truly flows, though we may not survive the shadow, much less can we abide it without struggle! We will not fade into darkness, but will fight, and fight with all the strength that is left in our mortal veins! Now bid the marshals to sound the call! To battle, arise true sons of Elendil! While strength yet remains, muster you courage! You are no vagabonds or villagers, but men of Gondor, Knights of Isildur's Realm and feats for such and greater yet remain!

Now you must hear the horn's beckon, for even they who are deaf from their mother's womb would hear truly such a call, and the dumb would cry aloud the battle songs, and the lame would march proudly in full battle array! All the servants of the Kings of old, arrayed in the splendor of our fathers once again! Elendil, Elendil for Gondor!

Awesome work! Gondor is going to be so hard, and yet so potentially rewarding to the skilled player.
