Default The Low Greens of Flea Bottom

    The Low Greens

Goal: Believing Rhaenyra to be a usurper they seek to free Queen Haleana, assassinate Rhaenyra and restore "the Greens" to power.
    Headquarters: Flea Bottom, River Row
    Relative Strength: High

Fanatics, thieves, and murderers. Just an ordinary day in King's Landing. The Low Greens rule from Flea Bottom, and conspire to depose the line of the she-devil Rhaenyra. Growing in strength over the last few weeks, their ranks had been bolstered by opportunists and looters, eager to spill blood and make some coin off the back of it. Hearsay and rumour said a lot about the Low Greens and their leadership. Some said it was Prince Aemond, alive and well, while others spoke of a "King" of Flea Bottom, an almost omnipresent figure giving the city back to it's people. They rule the poorer parts of the city, and it's more dangerous than ever to walk the streets of the poorer areas of the capital, be it night or day. Idealists or not, the lower orders were controlling half the city, and the city watch has forgone most of the patrols there. Nobody knows what is being planned down there in the slums of the capital, but the scum and rabble won't sit idle long. Not after their successful attack on the royals themselves.

In the depths of Flea Bottom the rumblings of chaos were growing stronger and stronger as the 'The Low Greens' were continually left unchecked. As with all movements different ideals and aims were being pushed and pulled, and for many in Flea Bottom who wanted no part in what was happening were being forced to pick a side, for their own safety as much as anything. The movement that was the The Low Greens was all-consuming and devouring itself from inside, it just happening to be devouring anything outside at a much faster rate. Soon it would not be long until they spilled out from Flea Bottom across the whole city as the so-called voice of the common people demanded to be heard in a roar, bringing with it a wave of disorder and destruction.

Amongst the The Low Greens were two groups of the most power and importance. There were The Green Hand, originally made up of those involved in the murdering of the Queen and her heir. They knew there was no hope for them if they were captured, regicide is not taken likely by the upper classes, and as such they knew they had nothing to lose. The Green Hand formed together as a brutal, deadly organisation where no act, no matter how reprehensible, was beyond their doing. For when a man had nothing to lose he would do anything to avoid the noose. They had grown quietly larger, attracting other people who had turned to crime during the riots and wanted to delay their day of judgement for as long as possible. They terrorised the residents of Flea Bottom and ran a regime of fear in the areas they operated, extorting the populace for their own aims. They were against dealing with the Crown, because they knew a heavy punishment awaited them if they ever made peace. They will only become more disruptive the longer they are left alone. Their are even whispers that their leader was the one who murdered the Queen himself.

Differing from The Green Hand is the Peasants Movement, led by the mysterious and omnipresent King of Flea Bottom, perhaps reference to how widespread the movement is. Much larger than The Green Hand, they are made up of the people of Flea Bottom who want to be heard, want a chance to improve their lives without always having to resort to crime. They could be more easily dealt with if promises to improve the life of the common man were made and followed through, and a more peaceful in nature compared to The Green Hand, but that does not stop them from looting and ransacking when it results in an improvement for the many. Whilst The Green Hand are more powerful and dangerous, they will not turn on the Peasants Movement yet, who they know possess the support and love of smallfolk for ensuring food and shelter are equally distributed in these turbulent times. Perhaps if the Peasants Movement can be reasoned and allied with they may be able to turn in and identify the lead members of The Green Hand, a movement which relies on its hard-core operational team to remain powerful. However, if The Green Hand is left unchecked whilst the Peasants Movement is dealt with, they may turn on their fellows if they feel their freedom is at threat, more so now as they are filled with confidence from their growth in strength and lack of response from the Crown.

It is a precarious situation for any who think to deal with The Low Greens, a tinderbox ready to go off. The conflicts between these two sides could be exploited to benefit the Crown, but when playing with fire you need to be careful not to get burned...

[OOC: it, I tire of waiting. King's Landing RP really does move at a snail's pace.]

After some months in the city, and while still waiting for an opportunity to speak to the King, Raymar began responding to the reports of his own agents that members of the Low Greens were interested in meeting him. Entering into Flee Bottom incognito, wearing simple clothes that concealed a chainmail vest and a cloak that concealed a short sword, Raymar and a handful of his best brawlers went to one of the many formerly abandoned buildings in the slum that had become a haven for the Green Hand group: part homeless shelter, part political hotbed and part black market, these buildings did everything from offering somewhere under cover to sleep to pawning off the many items that found new owners among the rising crime in the city.

Entering the bustling structure and approaching the man that matched the description given to Raymar by the agent that reported the group wanted to meet him, Raymar approached the man.

"I'm here on behalf of Lord Lefford," he said to the man in a low voice, "my Lord understands your group expressed an interest in meeting with him."

The man he spoke too look around the room sharply, before focusing his eyes on the agent in-front of him. "Not here, follow me," he mumbled, worming his way through the crowds of people in the building towards a doorway at the back of the room. He knocked on the door thrice, and a wooden slit in the door snapped open. From within a pair of beady eyes glanced at the man who had knocked on the door, and at the agent, and back again. The man whispered something to the eyes, who promptly snapped the hatch closed, opening the door fully.

The man gestured for the agent to enter the dingy back-room, before he himself entered after having another glance around the main room. When they had both entered the door was shut just as quickly as it was opened. Inside were upturned crates, open barrels, aged chairs and wooden tables littered across the room. Within were four men, the doorman, two big men with heavy features, carrying wooden clubs and menacing glares, and sitting on one of the chairs behind a table was a man in non-descript clothing with normal features but dark eyes.

He looked at the agent, and the man who had brought him in, before nodding silently at the doorman who escorted himself and the man the agent had met back outside. He turned to face Lefford's man, "I'm Lowe," he gestured to the big men behind him, "That's Flea, that's Bottom. How do we know you actually come on behalf of Lord Lefford?"

Raymar fished a small coin-like object from his pocket and tossed it onto the table. It was stamped with the Lefford sigil, and appeared to be gold.

"One of the samples the Leffords use to check the gold from their mines is good quality," said Raymar, "not easy to come by if you're not working for them."

Lowe inspected the coin. "We are part of the Green Hand. If you could get to this meeting then you already know who we are. We won't ask who you are, it makes no difference, we just needed to know you came behalf on Lord Lefford." He pocketed the coin, "And you do. Tell me, how can we aid Lord Lefford?"

"He sent me with an offer," said Raymar, "you and your men are wanted criminals, for regicide no less, and the zealots that the Goldcloaks seemed to be devoting their time to are becoming less of a problem as time passes, meaning they'll be coming for you soon. Some of my men will embed themselves within your organisation, and in return Lord Lefford will "hire" you and your close associated on as his own men: the Goldcloaks aren't going to touch men belonging to great Lords, you'll be protected by his patronage."

Lowe pondered the offer, "The West abandoned the Greens when it suited them. How do we know Lord Lefford won't do the same to us? He could easily 'secure' us and then turn is into the false-king for a reward."

    Raymar scoffed.

"While Lannister cowered behind his mountains and forbade any attacks, Lord Lefford was commanding cavalry in raids into the Riverlands," said Raymar, "Do not mistake the late Lord Lannister's cowardice for that of all the West."

"What of the other greens, the Hightowers and Baratheons, are they aware of this? Do they intend to help?" A gleam entered Lowe's eyes, if they major Lords were supporting they would be unstoppable.

"I'm not privy to that," said Raymar, "your primary concern for the next few months is keeping your head on your shoulders, not preparing for a second civil war. The Black Queen's dynasty is weak, they stand upon a precipice: hostilities could resume at any time and, if they do, you're going to need someone with power and influence to keep you alive. Should I tell my Lord you're interested in this association, or do you prefer to continue working alone?"

Lowe pursed his lips, "Tell him we are interested. We will help him how we can, but he will not order us around and we'll continue to cause trouble in the city - but we won't increase our operations until we hear from you. One thing though," he added, "if we get a whiff of your Lord not acting in a way that furthers the green's cause we will unleash our fury on him as well."

"A deal works both ways, remember this," said Raymar, standing up to leave, "Don't become a liability, Lowe."
