Thread: Storm's End - Seat of House Baratheon

ooc: we can add more detail to this that it had in game, due former Lannister erratic behavior and sudden surrender.

"Crakehall, he was prepared to march in our aid, either reinforcing our ranks or marching to the capital and create a diversion. However, he didn't march because your Lord and father surrendered meekly, leaving our throat exposed. Still, we could have won, and we nearly won, but, alas our flanks crumbled, lacking in cavalry as our horses were slaughtered before the walls of King's Landing"

    Said Caron.

"But, Lannister, we aren't beggars, we don't need your gold and gold won't remove the stain on your honor, for your father will be known as the Lion "Who-knelt-too-fast", and that shame you will carry, no matter how you try to shower us in golden dragons, to no avail. House Caron isn't poor or weak, we don't need alms, Lord Lannister"

Lyonel was tempted again to slap the Lannister. Unfortunately for Jason he didn't know how proud was the Caron.

Tyrek Lannister was slightly unsettled by the Lord's response. He recovered quickly however, quick enough for his pause to not be noticed. His response was stern, You mistake me Lord Caron. I do not carry a mark on my honor not a single one. You lost your fight, reinforcements lacking or not. I was a man of finance and seventeen namedays. I expected only those with small minds to lump me and my father together. I did not expect that from you. His response was sharp. After just a moment to digest his words he continued on,
Regardless, I do not offer help to paint you poor or unable Lord Caron. I offer what I do for the people that lost their loved ones. I hope you are not as egocentric to think the tribute was all to patch up relations between mine and your Houses. The people matter too. I shall deal with Crakehsll accordingly however, I thank you for your knowledge. My father was a different man than I Caron.

Then, Caron did something unexpected he ran towards Lannister and slapped him with the full strenght of his arm. Caron was a strong ad fully grown man, a trained warrior and the force of impact was enough to throw the young Lordling to the floor. There, Caron punched the Lannister.

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE, LITTLE WELP?!! Son of a worthless, COWARD, toothless lion!!"

    He roared.

"Does you little ego tell you're better than ME? You---a---re---n't!"

    Caron's wrath was evident.
"I shall! not! stab! you!! Little ! But I should, you shall no more speak me like that you little bastard! I shall not kill you in my cousin's halls, had been mine and I would have cut your head, covered it with tar and stuffed it with straw!!"

Baratheon's blood. His fists covered by blood, Lannister's blood.

Without even speaking a word, guards within the keep rushed forward from various directions. These armed guards moved not only to protect Lord Lannister who was a guest in the Keep of Lord Baratheon, but to subjugate the enraged Caron. Several guards managed to grab hold of the Stormlander's arms as a maester makes his way to tend to Lord Lannister. Monfyrd Baratheon gives a cold gaze to his son-in-law.

You dare to bring harm to our guest in my presence, Lord Caron?! If you were not my son-in-law, I would have you thrown from nearest window for such actions! Guards, take Lord Caron away and lock him in his room! I will reprimand him further later.

Those who were handling Lord Caron obeyed their Lord and dragged Caron out of the main keep, taking him away from the presence of the enraged Monfyrd and his Westerland guest.

"No need of dragging me out! I obey my lord, even if he commands my death! If he had ordered so I would have cut my veins with my own knife!"

And escorted by the guardsmen he left the hall.

Tyrek respectfully brushes the Maesters hand away. He wipes the blood from his mouth as he grimaced. He threw a 5inch dagger that was secured to his thigh on the floor. He looked back up at Lord Barathheon, I could have taken his last breath. I should have. But I did not. I can petition for his head, but I will not. Nor will I hold exception for his actions for I will assume they were out of emotions for his people not his own pride. I have bled for a wrong I was not responsible for. We're my words proud? Disrespectful? Those were not my intent if that is how they were received. I think it is safe to say you banner man would not approve of a union. Tyreks voice was even, as though his licks were hardly received. His mind was a different story however

Lord Baratheon turns his gaze to Tyrek after Caron was gone. The Stormlander shakes his head slightly.

Caron has his own personal grudge, Lord Lannister. It will not affect your request for a union. I can say though that you now have a personal taste of what Baratheon blood has to offer in terms of strength; Lord Caron is my cousin and son-in-law after all. I would gladly still welcome a union between House Baratheon and House Lannister, no matter what Lord Caron has to say about it.

Lord Swann, after seeing the exchange between Caron and Lannister, decides to leave for Stonehelm with his vassals, to begin overseeing the next phase of improvements to the Redwatch to make it more daunting for the Dornish to assault it in their raids.

ooc: I'm assuming Oz will be joining shortly with the King, but I won't RP as if he is here until Oz posts so.

It was nice to be up in the air again, though the view over King's Landing was grim. Smoke rose from some portions, in others the streets were deserted. The tribulation must end sometime, but better sooner than later. Soon it was out of view as Silverwing rose into the blue skies and replaced by the seemingly endless Kingswood. He would be at Storm's End in a matter of hours thanks to his dragon, and he was happy for it. A trip on horse would be less safe and much more arduous. Severl holdfasts blurred until a rocker landscape and the smell of the ocean filled Armand's nose. Beneath him a grim castle stood on the cliff overlooking the sea. He circled down cautiously, hoping that his White Cloak would be noticable from the ground. At long last he landed outside the gate, he would not insult the Baratheons by landing atop their castle. Armand looked down to the guards on the ground from dragonback, his hair was slick with sweat. "An audience with Lord Baratheon, if he will have me."

The young Stormcloud arrived moments after, his translucid wings covering the weak winter sun for a moment. The dragon was silvery and grey, from head to tail, but his head was topped by a set of bronze horns that quite resembled a crown. On the saddle, an equally young Targaryen, of average size for his age, silvery hair and purple eyes, aquiline nose, thin limbs and a weak chin. He was wrapped in a thick furry cloak, made of a bear pelt, including a hood, that covered his Grace from the worst of the winter's cold. His head was crowned by a golden band, simple and unadorned. Below the furry cloak he wore thick and warm velvet robes, in black and red, with embroidered dragons and lined with soft ermine. He announced himself to the guards as Aegon, the Third of His Name, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.

The guards on duty noticed the two dragons flying overhead. Even before Armand and King Aegon landed, Monfyrd was aware of their arrival and presence. The appearance of dragons had put Lord Baratheon in a sour and cold mood all of a sudden, remembering how Rhaenyra threatened his very life and reputation while others, from what he had learned, got slaps on the wrists. Orders were given by Lord Baratheon and so the guards, keeping their distance, spoke in return to the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and His Grace.

His Lordship, Monfyrd of the House Baratheon, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, High Lord of Shipbreaker Bay and Lord of Storm's End, welcomes His Grace and the Lord Commander to Storm's End.

After that, nothing further was said as the guards opened the gates into Storm's End. Only a small party would escort them to where Lord Baratheon waited, in the main keep of his castle. They were brought before Monfyrd who remained quiet as the pair were brought before where he sat. The guards knelt before their Lord before Monfyrd gave a dismissive wave. A steward would walk out momentarily with servants who brought two chairs, some wine and food for their guests. The whole time, Lord Baratheon remained quiet, his gaze locked upon the Lord Commander and the King. Once all had been settled, Monfyrd spoke.

Your Grace and Lord Commander, I welcome you to my halls and give you your due rights as guests under my roof. Now, what can I and the Stormlands do for you?

    "My Lord Baratheon"

The King was fairly amazed by the wondrous Storm's End, one of the greatest castles on the realms. But he tried to conceal his feelings behind a mask.

"I wished to meet you personally as part of a royal progress around the realm, so I shall receive your oaths of fealty before my coronation"

The boy was hieratic and regal, as expected from a King and trying to cover his own insecurity. He was even a bit intimidated by the Baratheon, however Armand stood by his side in his white armor.

"Also, we have an urgent need. The Kingsguard is still depleted, and we wish that a Stormlander joins it ranks, if a knight form your lands is indeed willing. Seven knights from the Seven Kingdoms"

Monfyrd remains quiet for a long time. His finger raised, gently tapping the edge of his face. Though the Baratheon starred directly at the pair, it was certain that he wasn't looking at them, but rather in their direction as he thought. He taps his foot twice upon the stone, which easily summoned forth a steward to Lord Baratheon. Without even looking at the steward, Monfryd makes a command.

    Bring forth Ser Qarlton Storm.

The steward bows and rushes off to find the man who Lord Baratheon requested. Monfyrd then speaks to the King and the Lord Commander.

Ser Qarlton is a cousin of my family; fathered by my recently deceased uncle. My uncle named him after a Durrandon Storm King, one of the greatest known in the Stormlands from what records say. He is known in these halls as the Stormbreaker, the Bastard Knight and the Black Stag. He is a Hedge Knight currently, yet stays close to Storm's End. From time to time, he finds work among the local lords and myself to keep his skills honed and refined. However, he has not declared any of them nor myself to be his master and liege.

The steward would return with a man who had raven black hair, dark green eyes and well-toned form. He was neither tall nor short, but an average height for any Stormlander and Westerosi. A scar ran along the side of his face, from the left edge of his lips towards his left ear. It looked like it was once a deep wound, possibly a trophy mark from slaying the rogue knight. Qarlton held the same serious and quiet look that Monfyrd had. Apparently such a personality and expression ran in the family. The bastard Storm looked neither amused nor surprised. Monfyrd would gesture to Ser Qarlton as a simple gesture of introduction to the Lord Commander and the King.

Ser Qarlton, these are the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Armand of House Arryn and His Grace, Aegon of the House Targaryen, the Third of His Name, [further titles attached]. They wish to add a Stormlander to their ranks and I feel it will give you something better to do than sulk around these halls and express how bored you are to me every day.

OOC- I don't know HOW I missed this post, I've been checking ritualistically.

Tyrek still calming himself after the dust up nodded his head, Very well then. I cannot wait to meet the young Lady in question. Maybe over time I may prove a worthy good-son and kin to Caron. Even if the mending takes 50 years.

Ser Qarlton is my younger half-brother, born of a Stormlander woman, a bedwarmer when my mother was pregnant with my other brother, Ser Oswald. My father named him after a Durrandon Storm King, one of the greatest known in the Stormlands from what records say. He is known in these halls as the Stormbreaker, the Bastard Knight and the Black Stag. If there is one thing in common we have, its our quiet personality we inherited from our father. I raised him to knighthood myself when he slew a rogue knight near the Dornish Marches.

Aegon's pruple gaze studied the Stormlander carefully.

"He shall suffice, doesn't it, Ser Armand?"

He looked back at Arryn, seeking his approval.

"This honor we thus grant you, Lord Baratheon: your kinsman shall be a Kingsguard, member of the most prestigious brotherhood in the realm"

Another bastard. THe guard will become a joke to the realm. Arman thought with dismay. Snow had worked out just fine, but a second bastard was setting a trend, no matter how well connected. "He will suffice." Armand replied.
