So can I make my own generals and stuff? Can I create my own family?

Guys you don't need to "send diplomats" and stuff. Just write in pm what you need to say

Il Gran Ducato di Milano would like to point out the inherent weakness of Umbria by way of their geography. The presence of the Apennine Mountains running through the middle of their territory would imply that half of their realm is vulnerable due to their inability to reinforce that area with troops from across the mountains. A coalition formed against Umbria would destroy them easily; you need me - Raffaelo Campo d'Aurea

Well, from my perspective, their realm is only really vulnerable from the north from a Tuscan advance, because they have the sea to the east, the papacy to the west, and moutains in the south and the only really great way in is the coast road.

I suppose if a coalition formed against them and flooded the coastal area then only the interior would be safe at that time. I mean if they tried to slowly send troops across the Apennines to save the coastal area they probably would not make it in time. Meanwhile Tuscany would probably just invade Umbria itself while the troops are in a limbo crossing attempt of the Apennines. Especially if the invasions happened in winter then crossing those mountains would be even harder. Or quickly overrun the coastal strip and just do a meat grinder campaign against the interior which would probably just buy Umbria some time but not necessarily save them.

I don't play EUIV, actually this is really the only Italy related anything I have ever played (except NTW Italy campaign). But Central Italy looks so densely populated. How will we do defense? Is every city a fortress or something?

Yeah every city is a fortress more or less, I mean Italy is where they came up with the modern concepts of a star for backed up by guns and aside from the Netherlands or perhaps some sections of N. Germany, it is the most heavily fortified place in the world

When it comes to fortresses, my current disposition is that every city on the 1494 map is walled, whereas only the capitals of each province on the Provinces Map to be found in the game have the latest fortification techniques in the trace italienne style.

Also can I please remind all players to CC me in your private correspondence, it's important for the GM to know what's going on when he writes the story. Fedora tip to those of you already doing so.

Right, all being well I can have some additional information laid out today and the first turns sent out tomorrow, but to do any of that I first need a faction from Ikaroqx (sorry to rush you but things are already getting quite active, I'll need to get the ball rolling), while some extra details from Kirila and Spartan would not be amiss. I underestimated how much trouble timezones could be in terms of keeping tabs on things

    Coat of Arms:
    Capital:
    Taranto
    Ruling family name:
    Guiscard
    State religious denomination*: Catholic
    Current ruler: Robert Guiscard II

A Brief History:* Alternate history*. A young nobleman from France, Robert Guiscard has inherited the Country of Taranto after an odd series of events involving a tavern brawl, three weddings and kinky rumours involving his uncle and -

Robert then, his name conveniently the same as the man who had created the County in the 11th century, sailed to Italy and was quickly matched with a respectfully demure noblewoman, Perretta Vereconi. Now with a faithful wife at his side and a son on his lap, Robert is ready to enter the world of Italian politics.

*It's embarrassingly incompetent of me, but I don't know what faction I am really. Various maps I looked at don't show it, generally labelling my areas as part of the Kingdom of Naples. I hope that making this up will still suit the game, and I'll certainly stick to authenticity as much as I can.
