Default [Experiment] Replacing Battlefield micro textures

    Hi folks.

I did an experiment in with I replaced the micro battlefield for the temperate forest. I only partially succeeded in improving graphics as some problems came up.

The micro textures are the way to go if you want to seriously improve battlefield textures. However on zoom out the tiles become very noticeable, close-ups look much better though.

Right-click and "show image" for full resolution

Any idea how to improve the look or make the tiles less visible?

I assume it is because the image edges are contrasting too much with their neighbors. Did you make them seamless? I really couldn't tell you what the problem is without actually seeing the edited files though.

How do these tiles affect graphics performance in battle?

Yes they are seamless, the problem is the tiles have too well defined features with makes them easy to spot.

For now I have the tiles at 2k resolution (so actual features are smaller) and game runs fine.

EDIT: I tried editing the textures. What I did was decreasing the contrast so details are less visible as well as desaturating the textures a bit. I also changed some of the 2k textures into 1k, but without resizing. This way the tiles are bigger and dont look so out of place.

Now the macro textures kinda mesh over the new micro ones and make them look less like tiles. Looks better when zoomed out, but its kinda missing the point as up close it looks similar to old textures.

The dirt/mud ones don't look seamless in this picture, plus the interior of the tile is lighter than the edges so that adds a lot of contrast. I am not really sure how the battle terrain works, I just made an action file in photoshop to apply my changes to all the files. I did mess around with increasing the resolutions and the tile sizes just for testing and I did get some weird stuff going on, but I will mess with that crap later. It takes 2 mins to use texture tricks and mass apply them to a single folder , so much easier than doing one file at time.
