No, because the Ottomans can destroy anything in their path from game start to 1550. Muscovy doesn't have that same luxury.

Yeah, Ottomans have combat modifiers and better units than most of the world. I can do some good expansion as Muscovy, but it requires far more monarch points to convert cultures, Orthodox religion actually has a tradeoff for the bonuses it gets, and it has units that start off quite weak and become a bit weaker down the line. Muscovy also lacks the extreme coring cost reduction (only 15%, compared to Ottoman 33%), with the addition of the Ottomans getting Humanism with its already existing modifier for culture acceptance.
The list based on first choices posted so far:
Iberia - Poach (Castile) (I'd prefer them over Portugal on further thought)
France/Burgundy -
British Isles -
Scandinavia - Apple (Sweden)
Germany -
Italy - Cryers (Papacy)
Eastern Europe - Mark (Poland)
Russia - Rickie (Muscovy)

I'm fine with no Ottos. They start with more or less the same development as France, have a bunch of incredibly easy to reclaim cores, and have a lot of powerful missions. Add in one of the single most powerful ideas in the game in their 33% coring discount and they're incredibly easy to blob with. Muscowy is slower to blob and has weaker ideas from an MP perspective. The other main contrasting thing about Muscowy is that their neighbour Poland is considerably more powerful than they are, which is really the main point. Someone is going to have a massive expanse, the problem comes if that nation is already massive compared to its neighbours.

Give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of the day.

Switching to Venice.
Tested out blobbing viability as Persia/Bahmanis. They're both decent picks, but not the Ottomans. If our games every get full, they're both valid picks.
I could do another go with Sweden.

first, I won't mind a restart.
Secondly, I've noticed that Poland is actually weaker than we thought it was. I've no idea why, but another MP game with them showed me that they can have serious issues conquering AI Teutons...

it's the teutons that have been buffed.

We're down to just one unfilled slot then, since we have Pat and Must who'll fill in where needed. Who hasn't posted yet?
Ynen
Ynen: France, Burgundy, someone in Germany, or England?
Whatever is needed, as always
England sounds good to me though.

Alright. So I guess that means I'm France /burgundy and Musty is something in Germany?
On second thought, I would like to try Burgundy again. I am going Dutch though, so we might as well have a France...

Not really. We still lack anything in the British isles and nothing in Germany (no Austria in particular).

We're with three and we have three spots, so that's all fine then, right? We don't need someone in France even if he forms the Netherlands. France will get split up soon enough, should be interesting to see.
So it really comes down to us two. Would you rather have England or Germany-ishque?
We do need someone on France, or as land Burgundy. That's the whole point.
I think the gap will fill itself quick enough. Mostly with burgundy and Castille. Have you seen ynen ever play a before? Even if he forms the Netherlands you're not going to convince me he won't blob like crazy...
