    Default Iranian cartoonist on trial.

After the Iranian supreme leader denounced family planning as a "western lifestyle" it`s government initiated an anti-birth control legilature. The legislature would ban vasectomies and severely restrict access to birth control. It also forces private buisnesses and public institution to favor job aplications of married people over those from unmarried people.

In response artist and caricaturist Atena Farghadani published this cartoon:

She was jailed and charged for that and later released. After her release she alleged that she had been physicaly abused in prison.

This week she is court to face the charges of "publishing propaganda" and insulting the Iranian leadership.

you have no idea how hard this made me laugh.

she's got talent and she's immensely beautiful too. these sorts of individuals are easy to rally around, unfortunately the story behind her is a bit more severe than what you described, as amnesty states here, she went through hunger strikes for a while and ended up in the hospital.

she hangs out with members of the 2009 uprising. thats probably more reason why she was imprisoned than the cartoons (which she was initally released for).

Why don't we invite her and grant her citizenship and rewards? She could be quite useful and definitely more qualified than illegal refugees on ships. There is no point for her to waste life on a hopeless place ruled by cavemen.

as if she could just walk out of solitary confinement in Tehran. sad news for civil liberties everywhere

    her hilarious drawing:

    Atena Farghadani:

her name is very fitting, an embodiment of wisdom, courage, inspiration, shrewdness, civilization. people would easily rally to her like Malala or Neda Agha-Soltan, however this means that i am worried about her safety. but surely they would not be stupid enough to make a martyr out of her?

    OH MY GOODNESS!!!

Imprisoned cartoonist subjected to forced virginity test in Iran

A recent revelation by satirical cartoonist Atena Farghadani that she was forced to undergo a “virginity and pregnancy test,” prior to her trial for a charge of “illegitimate sexual relations” for shaking hands with her lawyer, has added another stain on Iran’s shameful record of violence against women, Amnesty International said today.
Coerced “virginity testing” is internationally recognized as a form of violence and discrimination against women and girls. It also violates the absolute prohibition of torture, and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment under international law, including article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which Iran has ratified.
it is also getting worse for fellow artists in Iran

2 Iranian poets are latest target in hard-liners' crackdown on expression in Iran

so it pretty much is doing whatever it wants with its artists and journalists, very very sad excuse for a government really

i hope these jihadist loons violate the nuclear deal early so we can skip all of this silly song and dance and skip to the bombing, while not looking like warhawks too.

The Iranian Government really is sex obsessed, isn't it? Bunch of puritanical arses.
If I had to choose between betraying my friends and betraying my country, I hope I would have the guts to betray my country.

All that would accomplish is sideline the issue of human rights abuses in Iran and unite the country under the banner of self-defense. I know these subtleties are lost on you, I mean they would for me too if I was too busy rubbing one out to the thought of American fight jets over Tehran. But please do try to think of the repercussions of dropping bombs on people, we're still seeing the consequences of that in a neighboring country.

its already sidelined, been sidelined for over 50 years, do you see anyone stopping mass hanging via cranes or stopping the retarded Iranian kangaroo courts?

But please do try to think of the repercussions of dropping bombs on people.
please do try to think of the repercussions of violating a nuclear deal and of having one of the most insane rulers on the planet.

if by people you mean the scientists, technicians, and militants within nuclear facilities, then yes those people might be more likely to die, but violating the nuclear deal doesn't mean everyone in Tehran is going to get bombed, just the nuclear facilities and the military installations which try to stop us from stopping Iran. they are fair targets.

This is awful and very upsetting. This leadership is regressive, irresponsible, inhuman and evil. To borrow a phrase from the Iranian protesters, "Marg bar Jamhoori Eslami!" (down with the Islamic Republic). These wicked men who abuse religion to hide themselves in a false cloak of respectability must be resisted.

Only a fool or a simpleton would fall for their rhetoric. They are not representatives of any higher cause. They are politicians with an unpleasant agenda. Nothing more. The Quran warns against their type in surah 107: "Woe to those who pray, but do not heed their prayer. Those who are all show, and forbid common kindnesses."

This description fits Khamenei and his cronies exactly. They are enemies of all those who believe in doing good actions.

good news friends! Atena has been acquitted of “non-adultery illegitimate relations" for shaking her lawyer's hand. the "crime" would have carried 99 lashes and through the course of the investigation, Atena was subject to pregnancy and virginity tests. however, she is not out of the woods yet:

As Jason Rezaian returns, an imprisoned political cartoonist is still in Iran

i just have to say again that she's super gorgeous

her birthday was 20 days ago, and she spent it in a filthy Iranian prison. she is sentenced to 12 years in prison for being outspoken about her previous jail time due to her cartoon making fun of the Iranian leaders.

pray for Atena, friends, even if you are an atheist!

Iranians who have free minds and mouths are jumping ship, similar to countries like Cuba, North Korea, China, Russia, where nationals get the hell out whenever an opportunity presents itself.
