Lol, TTIP is not about free trade. Tariffs are almost nonexistant. TTIP is about nonsense like the ISDS. You made the wrong investment? Well, sue the government and get a refund.
That's the opposite of free market. It's rewarding bad choices and redistributing wealth from the poor to the rich.

Indeed. NAFTA does horrible things to Canadian economy with like Walmart ruining small local businesses. I assume TTIP will play the same result to European economy, if not worse.

dont worry folks, the european landscape is already dotted with burger kings and mcdonalds. and they pay property fees and commerce taxes, and some people choose them for some reason even with a local bakery right next door. actually the fast food places adopt local foods and bring in even more customers, sometimes the european local foods make it back to the american market if they are popular enough. if there's a demand, it works, and both governments involved aren't actually being dense : )

just people here continuously failing to understand basic capitalism

A company having the right to sue a government is basic capitalism?

Depends. The point of ISDS is that company can sue governments if they adopt politicies that might hurt their investments.
    That's ridiculous.
Political risk is part of the risk you have to consider when making an investment. It's like American companies want to eliminate the risk in investing. That's hardly free market at all.

I never thought I'd agree with HH on anything, but here we are.

The US doesn't support its workers, while its companies focus on savings for shareholders and customers rather than on employees. The EU doesn't need that kind of system within its borders.

Except that it has nothing to do with capitalism.

What we'd like is sustainable capitalism, not slash and burn capitalism.

Prioritizing foreign corporate interests over national ones is a textbook example of the latter.
