Thread: Which culture pack DLC do you want to get as next? (After new Carolignan DLC)

Eastern factions all the way, although I am Slav, I don't find that period of Slavic fascinating really, if are talking about the first waves (but perhaps I miss a lot). What I would rather like is a more fleshed out East, right now its not that unique and varied, the factions of Arabian peninsula look identical to the Persian factions.

    North African Culture Pack:
    1. Nobatia (Definitely)
    2. Garamantes (Definitely)
    3. Blemmyes ??? (Nomadic like the Tanukhids, were they relevant around 400D ???)
    4. Gaetuli ???

    Eastern Culture Pack:
    1. Afrighids (Definitely, Independent Kingdom south of the Aral Sea)
    2. Armenia (Definitely, start as a Vassal of Sassanids ?)
    3. Hephthalites ??? (Would require a map expansion of the east to include Sogdia, modern Afghanistan and Punjab ?)
    4. ???????

Your point is precise, Slavs have appeared in global political orbiter only from the 6th century. Slavs are welcome in Age of Charlemagne campaign pack, i hope they will appear there.
Through your intercession I hope to see the light of Thy son and the light of everlasting ages !

I don't see the appeal of this...we already have "desert" factions including one that's nomadic. There are only so many times you can have "Desert Spearmen" or "Berber Archers" before the theme becomes redundant. There also isn't much room to expand in North Africa unless you want to give the WRE things to worry about in Africa (completely unhistorical as Africa remained secure until the Vandals arrived). This DLC idea seems like grasping at straws.

With the White Huns FLC this idea is now moot. What the game needs now is a Slavic Cultural Pack with Armenia as FLC and Attila will be more or less complete in regards to faction/cultural diversity.

I think we will see two more cultural packs released before CA moves on.

mmm, Having Slavic tribes featuring future Slavic states seems tasty enough, but I believe that there is necessary to shift the starting date. MB they can make a huge update with new GC map (like Emp. Aug.) DLC. And hopefully with new Armenia and east. Do someone know for sure if there will be any new dlc after Charlemagne? As for me the artificial eastern region is an asspain...and the presence of white huns and nothing more than that can not move the train of Sassanid's puppets ...

CA said ina recent stream there will be more DLC's (in plural) for Attila. I expect other campaign, not sure about new GC, maybe for a year anniversary, but not think so.

Darren said in the latest stream there was more DLC coming, but that's all we know atm. Like everyone else, I hope it's Armenia + Slavic.

I'm glad the White Huns are now going to help make the Sassanids weaker, but I do hope some other factions can be added/made playable to weaken the tediousness that is the East part of the map.

Why? We already have Viking Forefathers, let's have some Slavic Forefathers.

I am ashamed to post a Wikipedia link but here are your 4th century Slavs - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boz_%28king%29

I don't mind it. Sure go for it. Viking DLC was a pre-order bonus so it was not the same situation as for a new DLC. But I think that as the community (and me also) wants the proto-Slavic more detailed factions they will be happy to do that. The difficulty is in lacking of information. Sure they did not come from nowhere and sources say that Sclavenians and Antes are their forefathers (even some say these 2 are the same). So it will be challenging to make accurate and worthy factions. Maybe they also shall create extra regions in the north-east part of the map. some abandoned ones so they can establish in there. it can be done without expanding of the map. All in all I would like to play with that tribes))). Also Caucasus pack is also welcomed. Cuz besides Armenia there are 4 factions some of which later formed Georgian Kigdom. Quite strong one in early middle ages. They even sometimes cooperated with Armenia for maintenance of independence of them both. I hope we will have them all (slav and Arm with caucasus) as flc or dlc. Moreover, it is not that hard to do cuz solo modders do it almost perfectly. and CA having larger amount of tools can do it faster ans better.

the Ghassanids and Angles need to be playable in the game maybe as freeLC. Also the Saxons also need a complete overhaul like the Alans.

Rome II has 32 playable factions for the general campaign. That excluded the factions from Wrath of Sparta and Imperator Augustus. Attila has 25 (including White Huns which will be released tomorrow) for it's general campaign as of now. There is room I believe for 2 more culture packs if CA is planning to meet a similar level of DLCs as CA did for Rome II.

Well so were the Vikings a Germanic people. I am actually studying this now in university. They actually weren't terribly different from the Franks, Saxons, Goths, or many other Germanic groups, of which the Scandinavians were still related culturally and ethnically. The Vikings are notable simply for being the "last" of them, as the final followers of pre-Christian beliefs.

Anyway, Saxony and Denmark were quite close together geographically and it is quite likely that there was trade and diplomatic interactions between both groups. The Saxon Wars would've caused something of a shakeup as frightened Saxons took flight into safer Denmark. The Danes did get involved and actually tried to fight Charlemagne's armies a few times on the border of Saxony and Denmark. But anyway, weapons and armor would've been fairly similar, with chainmail and long broadswords.

You are right, the Saxons were a Germanic tribe. But "Nordic" or "Viking" doesn't mean anything really. The first term is geographical in nature and the latter is about a profession, neither has to do with language or culture.
The correct term to describe the Geats, Danes and Jutes (there is some debate though whether the Jutes were West Germanic, North Germanic or even in a sort of intermediate group along with the Saxons, Angles, etc.) would be North Germanic.

On top of the fact that the difference between North and West Germanic wasn't very big in the timeframe of Attila, the Saxons had a long history as raiders and pirates in the North Sea (just as the Chauci before them). And what were the Vikings if not Germanic sea raiders?

It is kind of fitting that the Saxons use a similar roster with less cavalry and many lighter units with the "Scare (everyone)" and "Raider" traits.
