    what is it called when a switch requires someone to hold/stand on for it to operate? Like in the old zelda games where you put a box on a switch to keep it active. whats that called in real life?

    thats probably true, but what if its not a plate but a lever or a button that needs to be held? what would that be called?I spent a hour looking for something but google failed me.

    Conveyor belts and such would use movement sensors for detection. Less prone to mechanical failure.
