I'm having this problem as well and i can't figure out what's wrong my barbarian invasion shortcut just gives me a broken version of rome total war and the shortcut gives me the loading screen then it crashes as described in the OP. Any help pls this is the new shadow version

Seriously its getting to me lol. I am having the same issue as this guy. I installed to rome total war gold folder and input the launch commands and yet i still cannot run it. If i open through the shortcut it says that "horde_min_units": This feature is not supported. However if i open barbarian invasion i get some glitchy vanilla rtw menu with a provincial campaign.

Most likely you have installed it in the wrong place. Make sure you have a FATW folder inside your BI folder.
