    The plundering horde

    - Part I: the menace from the steppes -

It was a rainy autumn morning when scouts reported to the city that a huge army of unknown origin was marching towards the peaceful town.

The merchants which were in charge of the city ordered every citizen to arm himself the best he could and to hold the town if that approaching army's intent was to conquer it. In the meanwhile the merchants who could afford a horse to ride to the nearby castle of Salzburg in order to get reinforcements.

    The citizens took up arms.

The hunters were sent to the walls to deal great damage to anyone approaching the city.

But they didn't expect their enemy to use sorcery.

With those weapons after no time the black magic had destroyed the walls and everyone on them...at that moment, when the church, the symbol of the power of god fell, everyone who still had hope seeing the approaching army, lost it.

It was then, when the General saw that it was impossible for the militias to hold of the enemy and decided to charge their flank to give the garrison a fighting chance...even if it meant that he would have to die.

The merchants killed many of the invaders...until their heavy armoured, experienced knights joined the battle...the general and his guards could kill a few of them, but after a short time, they all died.

Unimpressed by the fighting going on, the artillery of the aggressors kept firing their deadly projectiles at the city.

Behind the city walls a battle was raging between the desperate militias and the blood thirsty invaders.

Many couldn't take it for long and decided to run...just run...if possible lock themselves in the safest building in town...which was already destroyed.

    The rest fought on...

    ...killing many.

But it wasn't enough...the horde had taken the town...whoever locked himself up in his house was burned together with it and who dared walking on the streets was slaughtered.

Wow, that was really great. I also demand more of this.

PS: Prof, are you using any kind of skymod, or is this the real sky? I've never seen it this impressive. Alltogether - the smoke of the fires and from the chimneys and the dark sky - looks really impressive, dark, evil!

    The plundering horde

    - Part II: the risk of retaliation -

A few months later the city was under siege again. The Gothic Knights and others who seek glory now actively participate in the expulsion of the Mongols, which had enough time to repair all the damage dealt to the settlement during their attack.
They have also learned that there is no black magic behind the thunderous new weapons which were able to bring down their walls in such a short time before and are now able to use them themselves.

After a short period of time big parts of the walls and the gate have been destroyed, allowing the attacking troops to enter the place.

    And so they advance.

Slowly the huge mass of steel and iron marches towards the city.

When they entered the city the order was given to the cannons to cease their fire for they were only destroying the civilian's homes now.

But all of a sudden arrows flew through the air, Penetrating the armour of the heavy troops from all directions.

After the soldiers ambushing them had been found, they have quickly been taken care of.

In the meantime the Gothic cavalry tried to outflank the enemy troops, but they were intercepted by a small group of archers, which were able to hold them off for a few minutes and kill many of them.

But yet it didn't take the knights long to gain the upper hand. They have been reinforced by the infantry, which was now fighting the Mongols from behind, cutting off their excape route.

But now they had to face an unexpected enemy. The Mongols had houndreds of men hurling a fiery liquid at the knights, burning them entirely and killing them painfully.

And as if that hadn't been enough the Mongols now ordered their archers not to give the advancing knights a moment of silence.

However...they were not mounted. So it wasn't hard for the knights to chase and slaughter them.

Knights being killed were just one more reason for the following knights to show absolutely no mercy.

They slaughtered everyone in their way.

Which did not mean that the well trained Mongol archers were unable to defend themselves.

And so a bloody fight had begun...now nobody cared about why he was fighting...the only aim everyone shared was survival.

After most of the Mongols have been killed the first cheers could be heard.

But when that knight saw another knight next to him falling, he knew that more was about to happen.

Behind the falling knights Mongol soldiers appeared which had been hiding from the aggressors before.

The artillery crews have been ordered to aid the knights which lost every second man already.

And then they saw them...the enemy's elite...they were standing in a road behind the town square shooting their arrows at the advancing infantry...

    ...and then charged.

Now the general himself rode into action with his last living guard.

Soon he stood in the field alone.

When he noticed that there was nobody left he ordered anybody who could hear him to retreat.

When he himself was already out of the town, he thought, he heard someone shout something in his language in the settlement.

    He turned around.

And when he heared the voices of 2 men shouting "Run faster! They are everywhere! Watch out for their arrows!" he decided to go back in...

...and charged back into the city.

He wanted to give all his remaining men the time they need to escape and so he fought...alone...he died. He died in battle to save his men. He died taking 15 enemies with him in his final moments. He died in honour.

Nevertheless the city was still in the hands of the enemy...and it was in flames again.

The 2 knights who could escape due to the heroism of their general swore revenge...

...and you shall soon hear more from them
