The light was dim... It flickered around the walls, across the ceiling, in an endless dance that temporarily forced the darkness back...
But it was only dim, barely filling the stately room which contained it's dance, and only bright enough to read by if one was directly in front of the fireplace from which it came...
The room was mostly dark, cold and uninviting. What little warmth the fire provided was overwhelmingly swallowed by the endless darkness. The room was stately and furnished exquisitely as a small sitting or living room, a fireplace against the main wall and a corner sofa wrapped around three windows forming the south east corner, a further window on the west wall at the south west corner of the room.
The high ceilings gave an air of grandeur to the otherwise small room, coupled well with carved woodwork and hard polish wood floors... Floors on which lay... One... Two... Three... Lifeless bodies...
Time wore on... The howling wind outside pushed against the glass windows... The beams of light from the fire danced... All was quiet...
Until one ray of light danced over a closed eyelid... It danced again this time provoking a twitch... Again... Another twitch... Again...
This time a slight groan escaped into the still air, the eyelid crept open, the eye began blinking through the murky sights...
Steven rubbed his eyes as he rose from his lying position, his body felt stiff from the cold hard floor and his mind was still not clear. It was then that Steven noticed the two others, they to awakening almost like clockwork, returning his blank stare.
Steven, William and James gave each other puzzled looks, before looking around the room which they now found themselves in...
