Best way to make money?

I've heard a few people talking about trade nodes (70K+ a turn, wow!) and I wanted to do, but I am quite a noob. I don't know how. If you could help me that would be awesome.

Also, is there any other ways to make money? I'm currently losing 10 a round.

Best way to make money: earn more than you spend. So don't spend too much: don't recruit too many units until you improve your economy. Upkeep is usually what is killing you.
Improve all the building that you can (market, farms, administrative center), create some trade ship, and send them to the nods on the hedge of the map (West and South). This may require a strong navy to take control of the nodes if there is already an ennemy navy there.

Just like Empire, trading on the seas is very lucrative.
