Default [AAR] An Epic Born From The Sea Nurtured in Blood

'Hugest that swims the ocean stream.'
WELTER upon the waters, mighty one—
    And stretch thee in the ocean's trough of brine;

    They waited.... They watched.....
Guthhulf was getting impatient .... HIGH King Guthhulf, Blood luster , Bezerker , hated Romans , Despised would be a better word in most cases.
The Roman Port settlement of Brigantium ,trade way point between Roman controlled Britannia and the Iberian Peninsula lay in their sites.
Asger his right hand man and nephew had cautioned against an outward assault. Wait he says..... Lets them starve.. let their numbers dwindle while we blockade.

That is not the Viking way! spat Guthhulf.
Guthhulf had heeded his nephews advice for longer than he cared to admit, and longer then he will let his warriors retell the tail once they return to beautiful Hufn.

Ores to the READY! Nordic Fire and Arrows to the front! blew Guthhulf.
He was a wise leader he knew the Romans had them matched. After watching the port settlement for some time one could gauge the number of defenders
and it seems as if their forces were matched. Guthhulf had no interest in losing good comrades to fool heard assaults. His plan was to rain fire and hell down on the Romans, while his warriors would land on the shores to the east.
That way the roman support towers he spotted wont give the Romans an opportunity to pick his fellow raiders off.

It was crucial for Guthhulf to maintain the advantage, when numbers are even, it comes down to skill. His men had been at sea for a long time, and the Romans had the comforts of their soft beds ,warm women.
He would need to use Roman arrogance to his advantage. He knew the fool in charge of this port city would be craving laurels. Good, let that fool lust for glory. We will lust for his women!
After months at sea Guthhulf was determined to sait his lust.

The roar of artillery was as if a dragon had descended upon the Romans, spitting fire and causing panic. Arrows whistled songs of death as they embraced Roman Flesh.
Guthhulfs Plan was working. The defenders had to accept the Nordic gifts in fear that the raiders would make landfall in their town if they retreated.
Despite Guthhulfs hate for Romans, their bloody armor was nothing short of excellent craftsmanship. Nording Heavy Arrows having little effect on the defenders.

It was time to take this battle to the shore!

He would land his forces on the beach and recall his Nordic bow ships to act as support towers, turning the Romans one advantage to his own.
This battle would be decided on the bloody sandy shores of Brigantium. Warrior to warrior , viking to roman.

Viking raiders poured out of the Nordic Dragon ships, assembling in a disciplined line across the shore. 'Romans arnt the only ones who can be disciplined thought Guthhulf.
In fact he was going to make a point of it. His warriors assembled as did the Romans in the distance. Standard roman formations, skirmishers in the front with their warriors in the back.
Unfortunately the formation didn't work as well when two Nordic bow ships had been pelting lethal arrow in quick succession. The Romans were forced to charge, away from the safety of their support towers. Roman arrogance smirked Guthhulf
Sword axe and Spear met in a bloody frenzy , the raiders had the advantage, with the dragon ships living up to their namesake the Romans had little to look forward to if retreat nagged at their minds.

SHOW THEM WHY THEY CALL US WILD BEASTS! SHOW THEM WHY WE ARE CALLED BARBARIAN BUT ABOVE THAT SHOW THEM WHY WE ARE VIKING! Guthhulfs voice boomed across the battlefield. The raiders were pressing their advantage, Romans had been falling left and right, as the vikings reviled in the blood of their foes. They roared as sprays of crimson coated them like a second armor. They cheered as heads were severed clean , They laughed as Romans arrogance was replaced with fear. And fear with death!

Smoke gently swayed across the bloody sands. Moans from the half dead would disrupt the otherwise quiet peace victory only granted.

The city was theirs... ripe for the taking.
