    Default General without texture when dismounted

    Hi,

    I have a general unit that has its texture when on horse, but when he is assigned to troops on foot he turns out to be textureless...

    I checked the battle_models.modeldb but every mentioned file seem to match...

    Any idea ?

    It is the same texture, just the animation is different. Are you sure it's the same model?

    Its really weird. I use custom battles to test.

    First the faction with the general assigned to a cavalry unit and it has texture.
    Then I assign to an archer unit and it lost texture.
    I tried then to assign to a siege unit and it has its textures.

    So it has nothing to do with beeing on foot or not. I have never seen such thing.

    I start a custom battle and my first unit is a bodyguard unit (mounted). Every thing is ok with the general.
    Then I start a new custom battle with an archer unit selected as first unit. The texture of the general is missing.
    I start again a custom battle with a catapult as first unit. The general has its texture again...

    Does the archer unit have the attribute mercenary_unit?

    Are you using the same faction for those custom battles? Because that would be the only explanation - that you did not assign a texture\faction.

    The battle model is defined in descr_characters, from there you can trace it in the modeldb file.

    Yes it's certain that's the same faction, but hold on Medusa0 may be right.

    I added recently the mercenary atribute to the said archer unit !

    Could it be that I need to assign in the battle_models.modeldb a texture for the general but for "merc" faction ?

    You certainly need a merc texture assignment for the captain\generals.

    Oh I never thought of that, I assumed the captain would be associated with the faction not the unit, well good to know, I have to add it to all captains. BTW anyone knows if a regular unit model can have both infantry and horse animations and its model be used on 2 units, mounted and dismounted, like how it works with captains? I tried it but the new mounted unit was standing above the horse. I just don't understand why it works for captains and not for units.

    I followed the same logic as you . Maybe it works a little bit differently for captains as they are "characters" and not units. Just like horses are "mounts" and not units.

    Have a look at the animation combos for generals - you will notice that there are sections for mounts and one for without 'header' for infantry. Your 'chinese acrobat' was missing a mount animation

    And yes, you can have that for any unit that can be used as a rider. Also take note of the prefixes of the mount animations for the unit - HR = horse rider, CR = camel rider etc.

    I used Gracul's Unit Editor tool to add HR animations to an archer unit to make a mounted archer version. But when I reload the files with the tool the horse animations aren't showing in the tool. But the model is like this, as the tool itself saved it.

    Not sure why the animation doesn't show in the tool, but I believe your mace_primary for the rider is still the infantry animation.

    There is no HR_sword/mace_primary . Another cavalry uses the mace one and all other cavalry, tens of units, use MTW2_Sword_Primary, and work just fine. But as I said above making a regular unit model both infantry and cavalry simply doesn't work for some reason, so I'll just make another copy of the model, like all tutorials say.

    I stand corrected about the mace. It's curious about the animations, though. Have you tried if it works if all mount animations are present like they are for the captains\generals? I do however remember that using a missile animation for officers crashes the game when the unit engages in melee (or something along those lines).
