Thread: Editing Religions

    Default Editing Religions

How can I replace an existing religion with a custom one? I have been unable to find the religions entry in the DB file (the pack file) or in any other for that matter.

Its done through the localization file, which can be kind of tricky to work with though so make alot of backups. Here are some threads about how to edit the .LOC file

I actually did this for 5.2, I changed a religion (cant remember which one) into Jews because for some reason NTW completely lacked them and I wanted more religious unrest in Austria-Hungary and parts of Russia. So I added them all over eastern europe in the pale of settlements based on historic info by editing the startpos.

Thank you for replying, but I have already edited the localisation file. It is directed to a DB entry, I have checked all the TGW files in the data folder (one by one with PFM) and I couldnīt find the religions db entry. In the vainilla game there is a db entry in the data.pack, however in the mod files there seems to not be any entry whatsoever.
Maybe I could edit the string in the loc. file to redirect it to other db entry but it is a feat way beyond my skills.

What are you trying to change exactly?

I am trying to replace an existing religion (say aminism) with a custom one (socialism). In the vainilla game it is quite easy: edit the loc. file and replace the colum there. Then edit the db entry in the pack. file (in vainilla there is a table in the data pack.). Also add a custom icon in the UI folder (wich is directed by the db entry).

My problem is that I cannot find the db entry the mod uses for religions. The mod has the vainilla religions but I have checked all the pack. files in the mod and couldnīt find it (religions table).

Well with animism (which i think is the one i used) theres only like 2 regions on the campaign map that includes that religion so you would have to edit the startpos to add animism to other regions.

Basically, if i remember correctly we are using vanilla religions so there wouldnt be a table in TGW files that controls that. Since I used animism instead of replacing catholicism for example all i had to do was change the name in the loc file then edit the startpos to add it to other regions, I dont recall editing the religion tables at all. I think the icon it uses is also located in the startpos.

But for your purposes, which i believe is to change religions to political ideologies, you will probably have to add the full religion table into TGW which is beyond my abilities sadly.

I did edit the locaisation file but in-game the spot where socialism should be is empty (when opening the regions tab and see the religious population proportions). That is why I figured I should edit the vainilla files for the edit to work properly, as the loc. file tag colum points to a db entry. If your mod uses the vainilla files for this matter, how can I edit it succesfully? I tried adding the vainilla db tables to one of the modīs pack. files but nothing happened.

(I will try to edit the vainilla files directly see if it works)

Or maybe I screwed up in the loc. file. I re-checked the loc. and it is still there: instead of aminism it says socialism, so I guess it has been done correctly.
