How is the game running for you once in-game? Are you having a lag problem with event messages on campaign?

If you do try it, I hope it works for you. For me it did, although even without it, the game was running fine outside the intro movie and main menu for me yesterday, apart from the event message pop ups. I'm still keen to find out what the 12 missing files are, don't want to get deep into a campaign to find something is corrupted. And I get what you mean about re-installing R2. I deleted Attila initially then tried a fresh install - only took me 4 hours each time.
Game is working fine once in game. It doesn't run as good as R2 did though, but my rig is getting old. I lowered the graphic options and it's allright.

The good thing with Attila is that the game has depth and so, the nice graphics becomes secondary :-)

Happy to know you got rid of this cinematic scenes lag issue at list.

I can't try atm due to work, will try later.
Really, this is troubling ! How come installing R2 is changing something to Attila's performance ? I will do it if it's confirmed, but somehow, except something about vcredist, etc... I don't see.

I know, it's not logical in any way, however, the way CA codes is not logical either, so we can't know for sure

I will run some tests when I get home.. if indeed FPS is increased with some %, we ought to have it reported as a "bug" and see if someone from CA can explain.

I'm still at work but I'll be trying later to see if it does give a boost to the fps. I had a ticket in with sega support and had posted on the TW forum about the lag, none of the responses from anyone at CA or sega suggested they were aware of it in advance. I wouldn't bet on that though. If it does give a boost to fps then wtf? Seriously.

If you test it before I get the chance can you let us know how you get on? I noticed that on another post it was being mentioned as giving an improved performance if that's the case post it and turn it into a sticky.

Just run a benchmark. The plot thickens (not really!). I get a massively, massive 1 fps drop when launching Attila after bringing the launcher/mod manager tab using the Rome 2 desktop. It would take 15 minutes to select an army for an online/quick/custom battle if not using this method and probably a week to alter the graphic's settings!

So no boost in fps for me but the game actually runs well considering my rig is a good 2 odd years old and wasn't high spec even then.

I had the severe lag too, but no more. I don't know how it went away, but it went away after I downloaded every Windows 7 update that I did not have yet through the Windows Update. This was because I reinstalled Windows, because I thought my entire installation was messed up and that that was the reason for the 12 files failing to validate. No more lag, but the 12 files problem is still there. I don't know if it is related, but I got that same problem, with a file not validating, with another Steam game, Skyrim. And that problem is still there. While playing Attila or Skyrim I get a CTD and when I validate the files I get that message that some file(s) failed to validate. I didn't find anyone else on the internet with this problem, but could it be that it is Steam and not the game(s) that is causing this problem?

I have been playing around with assigning different cores to Steam than the game, and this let the intro play just fine and there was no menu lag. However, it created another issue in that when I tried to exit the game, everything would lock up and I would have to use task manager to stop the game. This meant that my preferences script was not getting re-written to record graphics setting changes.

However, someone posted over on the official boards a fix along this line that now seems to work for me--with the added benefit that I can now exit normally. The down side is that you have to do this every time you start the game, and since it has to be done once the main menu is up, you will not see the intro movie (not a big deal)

    The procedure:

Start the game and hit escape after the initial splash screen goes away to get to the menu. When the menu finally comes up use control/alt/delete to bring up the task manager. Right click on the Attila process exe. and click on "affinity" in the tool box. Clear the check box for core 0 leaving all other cores checked and then click "OK." Close task manager and go back into the game. The menu should have no lag now. The moving "Huns" background may be stuck, but going into some other menu and back should unstick it.

At this point you should be good to play. By combining this procedure with the "start the launcher for Rome and then choose Attila, I have also gotten an FPS increase, so for me anyway, combining the two processes seemed to improve everything.

As I said, the downside is that you will have to perform the core re-assignment work around every time you start the game and you will not see the intro movie, but at least it makes the game playable.

Try it and report back if this works for you.

    Cheers

P.S. If you want to watch the intro video at least once, you can do this differently. Sign on to Steam and bring up your task manager. Go to the Steam process, and change its affinity like described above. The game should start, the intro will play, and there will be no menu lag. However, if it works for you like it does me, you cannot exit without locking up the game. This requires using task manager to force hard stop the game process, which means any option changes you made for the session will not be saved.

This completely worked for me. In my case I had Windows 8 32-bit which simply crashed all the time that I couldn't fix, spent about 10 hours of play dealing with that in my Sassanid campaign. I figured ok time to upgrade to Windows 7 64-Bit, so I did, completely spitshine clean OS, newest drivers, I was ready to play some non-crashing action.

Moved my app data over to the new os, then I run into this event lag issue, absolutely insanity getting through probably another 10 more hours. At this point the poor Sassinids started wavering because the **** at the helm is dropping the ball with keeping up with current events.

Googling skills were simply not up to par but I finally found this post and forum, so I signed up, just wanted to say thanks!

And kids, always check them events.

Guys, the same issue, your suggestions may help to increase the ftp but it is still the same problem and 12 files are missing.

Any other method to solve this message.
