Announcing Fall of the Eagles for Total War: Attila!

    Download Thread

    Mod Overview

    - The Mod Team for Constantine: Rise of Christianity would like to announce our plans for Attila. Our first project will be Fall of the Eagles, a mod for the base Attila time frame.
    - The main goals of the mod are twofold:

    • Historically accurate units for the Attila period with fully fleshed out rosters for the various factions.
    • Realistic, strategic, historically authentic battles.

    - We plan on using assets developed for Constantine for the various Attila units. Either in improving the existing vanilla units or in creating new units, the plan is to bring the historical authenticity found in our current models and textures into the new game.
    - The goal of the battle system will be to improve on the existing vanilla formula by adding realism to the morale, fatigue and projectile systems while increasing battle time if necessary.
    - As we have not had time with the new game yet, our plans remain in the beginning stages. There will be more announcements and previews to follow (and a WIP thread for the mod once the Attila mod threads have opened).

    Questions
Why aren't you bringing Constantine: Rise of Christianity into the Attila game?
There are various reasons we are not making Constantine for Attila. First, the technical aspect is not a simple port over to the new game. We would essentially be starting over in many ways and would have to build the mod again. Second, many of us are ready for a new project that takes advantage of the Attila vanilla time frame. We also have plans for future scenario projects. Perhaps in the future we will bring Constantine over to Attila, but that is not in our immediate plans for now.

Why are you creating a mod for the vanilla time frame rather than a new scenario mod?
From some of the reports of Attila, the game is very good but the units and battles are somewhat lacking. We felt there would be a need for more historical units and battle realism, two things we already have worked on in Constantine. Since we have many assets that would work well in Attila (models, textures, etc.), it seemed like a nice project to work on for the release of the new game.

Will you ever make a new scenario mod for Attila?
Yes, we plan on making at least one new scenario mod set in a time frame other than the main Attila campaign. However, we wanted to wait for patches to happen and for the game to settle down. We also need access to the kit for any major scenario overhauls. These plans will be revealed at a later date.

Interesting to hear, I'm already enjoying kicking the crap out of the beautiful Sassanian units so far with Maximinius. I hope you'll improve the Sassanians even more in atilla!

Excellent news, I have not yet loaded Attila. At the very least I will be waiting for initial units mods.

AWESOME! Cant wait to see what you guys do with it! Just one small favor.. Get rid of the period breaking Pike phalanxes from all factions maybe the East Romans but not goths, franks and so on. They don't belong.

It will be worth thinking to split the 2 roman factions further into roman Provincial and Imperial Factions.
The 2 Imperial Factions (Mediolanum and Constantinople) will each have 1 or 2 provinces. The other Roman provinces will be divided between Provincial roman Factions that are Puppet or Tributary States or Vassals of the Imperial Factions. This will drastically cut down the watch your settlement get sacked nature of Attila while still have you spread out your forces defending your many vassal states.

Also this frees up for the possibility to play as roman Provencal Factions. Such as Roman Britain and fight desperately with your 2 local legions along the Imperial Legion that is trapped In Britain. Imperial Legions could start out spread through the Provinces, forcing the player to work with Provincial Roman Legions (AI)

imagine playing as a Faction such as Roman Provencal Hispania, trying to fend off invaders in Spain while reinforcing France with your ragg-tagged Iberian Legions. Suddenly you get the message WRE's Imperial Faction has been destroyed (hence fall of the Eagle) all provincial factions under WRE goes free for all, have fun.

BAM now the gameplay shifts from preventing the end to surviving the end.

Anyway, I'm still working on the Idea but if implemented correctly, will be amazing.

Not so keen on splitting up Roman factions, I have modded garrisons and defending my empire is now a lot of fun as WRE. Sometimes without army backup still getting slaughtered, but it is a lot of fun, deciding where to save and where to let go... With slightly larger garrisons, at least you can inflict a few casualties on the hords before they destroy your town...

sounds good. if you all might take a suggestion for the future new attila campaign, i would like to see multiple hunnic factions. both E. A. Thompson and Helfen agree that the huns that uldin lead (during the raids of 395) were not a greater tribal confederation of huns, but just one or more groups of huns that elected uldin to lead them. he even goes on to say the early huns (up until the rule of rua and octar) didn't have kings for other than wars, but as war became more of a lifestyle the political structure of a king became more necessary. where this idea comes from is the distinction that olympiodorus makes when he writes about the "king" (uldin) of the huns and the "first king" (later on charaton) of the huns.

multiple hunnic factions could be fun in the sense of role play, uniting the various hun tribes to form them into a great tribal confederacy.

everything i've said, come from either E.A. Thompson, Heflen, or Peisker. hope this helps, i want to see cool mods for this game.
