The Metropolis system is a nine planet system orbiting around two stars, the smaller one being a Class K star with an orange hue while the larger one is a reddish Class F. The (name) Nebula surrounds most of the system, with only the outer two planets being in a small pocket of no nebula in it. The reason why the system was named Metropolis has been lost to history, but some historians believe the seventh planet of the system may have been the original colony of Metropolis that was destroyed by the mysterious alien armada that Symmachus ‘the Progenitor’ defeated, but when the system was reclaimed, increased seismic activity had transformed it into a lava planet like roughly half of the system.
The first planet of the system is Atyu, a highly seismically active world with massive seas of lava with almost barren desert islands scattered of various sizes that are formed and destroyed erratically by the activity of the planet. Several small industrial complexes along with the remains of a Tetrarchy-era prison camp are present on Atyu as the primary signs of human presence, most of the population living on the three terraformed moons with only mining expeditions or the occasional smuggler/merchant being the only ones willing to brave the dangerous environment of Atyu. The three moons, Rauha, Aviya, and Sado have been terraformed into a terrestial and two desert planets. The major settlements of Atyu are on Rauha, where the local Baron's estate is and the main port, while Aviya is mostly a mining world with limited agriculture around terraformed lakes. Sado is mostly an industrial center.
Jehenna, the second planet of the Metropolis system and capital, could be said to be a more docile form of Atyu, appearing from space to be a planet of black and red, a result of volcanic activity and a near constant cloud cover resulting from ash spewed into the atmosphere from volcanoes and the heavy industrialization of the planet. Being roughly divided between oceans of lava and land masses ranging from charred wastelands of sand or rock, numerous mountain chains with each having at least two volcanoes of some size. Human settlements are mostly found predominately underground with small aboveground portions, in mountains, or in dormant or extinct volcanoes. The "floating city" of Pekeli is the largest of the three floating settlements.
Lesser human settlements dot the landscape, most at least having a basic shield generator to protect the settlement from some of the more dangerous weather phemonenon of the planet. Large industrial complexes and mines spread out from the human cities, some being located even on platforms skimming above the seas to scavenge them for rare minerals and gems formed in the lava. The capital of the planet and system, Fushizi-jo, is located throughout a large volcano on one of the northern continents of the planet connected to Mazai, one of the largest city-industrial complexes of the city in a mountain chain and underground. Fushizi-jo has a commanding view of the planet, including several massive 'waterfalls' of lava emerging along with the occasional rare eruption. On the southern continent, a tower complex referred to as the Spire serves as the planetary military base, with several hypervelocity gun emplacements to defend Jehenna from orbital bombardments.
Several Maglev tracks cross the planet, connecting the various major settlements and industrial complexes along with making travel possible through some of the more dangerous regions of the planet. Ruins of buildings partially or nearly completely consumed by lava flows or ocean are visible in some locations, an example being what appears to be an ancient slave or prison labor camp. The camp and surrounding industrial buildings are believed to be from the Tetrarchy and founded by the Tetrarch of Castor to increase the production of the mines and industry of Jehenna for his war machine. Humans of Jehenna, due to the usual lack of sunlight, appear to be paler than the average human along with violet, yellow, and red eye colors being reported as rather common amongst the populace.
The seven moons of Jehenna are more densely populated than Jehenna, along with being terraformed more successfully than Jehenna to have less extreme climates. The exception to this is Duat, where terraforming attempts failed. Duat is mostly used for mining and industrial complexes with small towns setting up around them for the workers. Duat produces similar minerals and gems as Jehenna, but of a different variety. It also is home to another abandoned labor camp, usually inhabited now by wild animals or squatters. The largest moon, Horai, has been terraformed into a terrestial moon with four sprawling urban complexes. It is also shares the role of primary spaceport of Jehenna with the second-largest moon, Seian. Horai's port usually receives more commercial and transport traffic while large industrial shipments go to Seian. Between the two moons, the Akatsuya have built the Viridya station, a fortified dock for at least several squadrons of warships along with a regiment or two of marines to defend the ports.
The third planet of the system, Kajin, continues the trend of the Metropolis planets being covered in lava oceans, Kajin being 35% covered with a single lava ocean around the planet's equator being fueled by no less than fifteen chains of volcanoes. The main settlements of the planet are underground, the largest being Yukutsu. Kajin mines produce large quantities of minerals, although with lower amounts of rare minerals or gems found in the lava ocean compared to other planets. Kajin has three moons, two of which are mostly uninhabited besides industrial mines. The third one, Yomi, is a terraforming project gone out of control, transforming a initially desert biome into a dense tropical biome. Multiple endangered creatures exist on the moon, along with a few settlements of people who for some reason brave the dangerous climate. Tourists to the system and locals are strongly encouraged to not leave a settlement without some form of firearm.
The fourth and fifth planets of the system, Tokai and Ezo are relatively underpopulated desert and lava world respectively mostly used as military complexes by the Akatsuya, while the moons have terraformed to serve as agricultural production centers for the system. Tokai is where annual war games or field tests of military forces are usually held due to it having less external factors that could influence testing than the rest of the system while Ezo's mines and industry are mostly geared towards manufacturing military equipment with several shipyards floating in orbit over the planet. The planetary capital for Tokai is the Monaka Fortress, and for Ezo is the city of Yafutoma, on the moon of the same name used as a export center for the planet's products and a location for some shipyards.
The sixth planet in the system, Makai, is much like Jehenna being 60% covered by lava oceans and the rest mountainous continents with charred wastelands or desert-like valleys between chains of mountains or volcanoes. Most of the settlements on the planet are underground or in a mountain. The planet is known for producing the rare mineral Vinaite, a vermillion colored mineral that emerges in chunks from the lava ocean, or floats on top of it as it slowly is melted back into the ocean. The eight moons of the planet are where the majority of the populace live, with Visna being the planetary capital and chief spaceport.
The seventh planet, believed to have been originally named Metropolis when it was a terrestial planet, now has been named Wasakzu. A volitile and seismically active world covered 75% by an ocean of lava with islands of mountain and volcano chains jutting out from the ocean. The few settlements on the planet are mostly of the floating variety operated by companies to mine the mountains or volcanoes. The three moons of the planet are mostly urban sprawls with large amounts of industry. It was rumored a massive underworld network operated out of one of the moons, or did until 8 years ago when Ichiro Zenigata, an inspector in the police of Seiankyou, led a wildly successful raid on their complex, arresting no less than thirty high-ranking officials in the group. New rumors of a power vaccuum in the underworld of the Metropolis system float around from time to time, along with the occasional string of street fights between rival groups.
Shevala, the eighth planet of the system is a successfully terraformed lava planet into a tropical semi-garden world, but still with notable seismic activity and multiple volcanoes present in small chains referred to by residents as the 'Ring of Fire'. Small lava seas dot the landscape near some of the larger chains, while roughly 45% of the planet is covered by water. Human settlements dot the landscape, with several moderately sized ones where shuttles and small transports travel at least hourly to and from the spaceports. Commonly visited by tourists from the other planets or systems in the Metropolis domain with the occasional visitor from outside the domain, tourism makes up a decent portion of the economy of the planet, along with agriculture and local industry on two of the desert moons not terraformed to have similar climates to the planet. The remaining four terraformed moons serve as spaceports, settlements, resort locations, and other tourist-related purposes. One moon has only a small spaceport and settlement, the rest of the moon being a less dangerous version of Yomi for tourists to explore.
The ninth planet, Suishou, is a arctic world covered in ice, ravines, and mountains with sparse human population, the majority being miners and other workers of the local industry. The majority of the human population lives on the five moons on the planet, with Izumo being the largest and planetary capital. Suishou mines produce some valuable minerals, but the primary product of them are the variety of crystals they produce that vary in coloration depending on internal composition and how light hits them. These crystals are predominately used by jewelry either alone or in tandem with products of Jehenna, Atyu, or Kajin to make some unique pieces. A large scientific institute is located on Londian, the second largest moon that is a lava moon. Scientists test various experiments in extreme climates on the moon or planet.
