Imperial Contracts Office (Tier 1): +1 to your building cap. Allows you to hire mercenary companies.

Their ship was allowed landing and a big delegation of soldiers and members of the secret police led the Lord of Terra Nova and his entourage to the county palace where Emhyr was waiting for them.

They were received in the throne room which was full of courtiers and petitioners. Count Thyssen then spoke

"It is a rather unexpected honour to have you here in Sirius, Duke Cogaíoch."

Emhyr wondered if he had pronounced the name right

Darr Cogaíoch smiled, he would have his own difficulties in mame pronunciation.

"Count Thyssen, I apologise if I am intruding, but I wonder of we could talk privately? I have two issues I would like to discuss, one is nothing but a business proposition, but the other is a rather, eh, sensitive matter that I wish to bring before the Landsraad at some point in the future, and I am looking to see where I can gather support."

Emhyr rose and lead the way to his bedroom/studio, an enormous room filled with books, famous paints and hunting trophies. He then opened a door that lead to a balcony, which had two chairs and a small table. He ordered his butler to bring them some wine and sat in one of the chairs.

"You may feel at ease here, Duke. No one but myself is allowed in this place."

Sipping the wine quietly, Darr Cogaíoch began:

"I thank you for your hospitality, Lord Emhyr. The first thing I would like to discuss is trade. Would you be prepared to trade consumer goods for heavy machinery?"

"Honestly, I'm not interested. I hope you do not take it the wrong way, but due to the industrial nature of the Sirius system, building materials costs are not a problem for the finances."

The duchy of Terra Nova was a strong political and military force, Emhyr did not want to anger them but he would not accept a deal that did not interest him.

"I am a bit more intrigued by the other thing you wanted to talk to me about."

Darr smiled;

"It matters not, I understand entirely. Terra Nova herself is a strong industrial power and if you offered me the same deal, I would give the same answer."

Darr paused for a moment. Drinking some wine while he pondered how to broach the subject.

"Lord Emhyr, how do you feel about slavery?"

Darr paused for a moment. Drinking some wine while he pondered how to broach the subject.

"Lord Emhyr, how do you feel about slavery?"

Emhyr chose his words carefully

"It depends. Alien slavery, you could say I am interested. Human slavery is one of the higher, if not the highest, of all crimes and is condemned by all schools of promethean thought."

"Lord Emhyr, I believe in freedom for all sentient beings, and I intend to try and have slavery abolished. However, if you believe in the opposite and there is no argument I can give to convince, you need not worry about offending me. I respect the opinions of people, even of I believe them wrong."

"I honestly don't know, you are the first man I have talked about it with. I'm not sure abolitionism is a popular imperial belief. Any who, is there any chance of convincing you?"

"The only benefit I see from this is the opportunity to weaken the Custodian Lords. But even so, I don't think it is a cause worth making enemies for."

Emhyr sipped his wine. He liked this Darr guy

"I admire your belief, Duke Cogaíoch, although I find it hard to share. I also admire your sincerity and your lightheartedness. Not often you encounter those qualities in men in a position such as yours.
Don't count me as your ally but neither as your enemy. I'll keep my ears open for any proposal you take to Landsraad."

Darr Cogaíoch nods calmly, that was a better answer than he expected, however, he had one proposal left.

Emhyr got up and went to the room and returned to the balcony with a marvelous chess set

Darr Cogaíoch smiles as the game commences, after some time and some small talk, he bids Lord Emhyr his farewells and boards his ship, heading back to his home.
