Thread: FATW on Mac

    Default FATW on Mac

After a lot of failed attempts, I managed to get FATW working on Mac, and I decided that I should share my way in case anyone needed help.

So what you will need is:
-Winebottler (for running .exe files). Download here: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
-A copy of Rome: Total War - Gold Edition from the App Store
-Fourth Age Total War (for this tutorial, I used the Dominion of Men version)

    Installation instructions:

Step 1: Create a folder on your desktop and name it "FATW". Launch the FATW installer and choose your FATW folder on your desktop
Step 2: When finished, go to your Applications folder, find Rome: Total War Gold, right click on it and choose ‘Show Package Contents’
Step 3: Navigate to Contents/Resources/Data/bi/data/fmv and copy-paste "BI_Intro_640x480.mov" to your desktop
Step 5: Now go back to your BI folder, and move the "data" folder to your desktop. This should be kept somewhere that you can remember
Step 6: Go to your "FATW" folder, double click on ‘bi’ and move the folder called "fatw" to your BI folder
Step 7: Now go inside ‘fatw’, and copy/paste the "data" and "icons" folders to your BI folder. By now, your BI folder should contain "fatw", "data" and "icons".
Step 9: Go to your desktop, right click on BI_Intro_640x480.mov and choose copy
Step 10: Navigate to BI/data/fmv and paste BI_Intro_640x480.mov into the folder
Step 11: Launch Rome: Total War - Gold Edition, select Barbarian Invasion and FATW should be loaded instead of Barbarian Invasion.

If you want to go back to playing Barbarian Invasion, delete or move "fatw", "data" and "icons" somewhere else and move the "data" folder mentioned in Step 5 into your "BI" folder.

    Hope this helps!

That's great. Thank you, Barding. Can anyone with a Mac confirm this works?

Sorry, forgot to add, you have to edit the Rome Total War app permissions so you can modify its files. You can do this by doing the following:
Right-click on Rome: Total War - Gold Edition, and select 'Get Info'. Go to the 'Sharing & Permissions' tab and set your permissions to Read & Write. If your user is not listed, click on the + button and select your user.

That's weird, you did follow all the steps and edited the permissions, right? Could you take a screenshot of what your BI folder looks like?

You should also make sure to check that the folder models_engine exists, here's what mine looks like:

Hey there, Barding! I installed the mod exactly as you said, and got it running up until the menu screen, but I encountered some bugs here (the menus kept overlapping each other and clogging up the space on the screen, if that makes sense).

Then, when I tried to launch the campaign, I got a note saying that the file "bi/ci/date/models_strat/4a_sm_dunland_diplomat.cas" dosen't exist, and the game crashed.

I followed searched for the file and.... well, it does exist. It's exactly where it's supposed to be, it isn't corrupted and it's literally right there in front of me. And yet the game constantly insists that it dosen't exist. Any idea of what I should do? Thanks in advance for the help!
