Could a movie based on the Judo-Claudian dynasty work.
This was an idea in my head last night, a movie about the rise and fall of the Judo-Claudian dynasty (Octavian, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero) and I was wondering if it had any hope of success. The descent of the emperors into insanity and the contrast mainly moral between Octavian and Nero.

It needn't be made, since there's already a TV series that covers that ground excellently: I Claudius. Look it up, I think it's on YouTube.
It's too long a story with too many important figures to be done justice in the space of a movie, a series is better.

If you name that many names I think you want a tv series for sheer casting logistics alone. Forget the writing.

I predict a mini-series, with lots of intrigue, nudity and sex.
I just hope the production team won't feel compelled to force the actors to speak in Italian accents. On the other hand, that might just be hours of unintentional amusement.

It could be powerful to see Nero burn down what Octavion had built up, perfectly showing how far the dynasty fell.

Seeing as 'I, Claudius' was picked up by HBO to be a mini-series I think the short answer is yes.

As DG says 'HBO' have a new series of I Claudius in development, they're just delaying while the lead actors learn Judo..

Nero will no doubt go for the gold. Flavio Canto only got Bronze though.

Meh, the old "Nero is crazy" angle is boring. Keep that for Caligula and portray Nero using the more modern alternative views, showing him as populist who was deeply unpopular with the senate.
But I Claudius is already an amazing series. First time I ever heard Brian Blessed's magnificent voice.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
