Their was that mission in Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy where you go to a planet where some Jedi Master created a shield to make the Planet invisible. Can't remember its name or if its canon but. yeah.

Probably. Not with today's technology, but I'm sure it could be done somehow, somewhere down the line. The real question though, is will we have the resources and will it be cost effective?

That's one of the missions for the Jedi Knight storyline in The Old Republic. The Sith turn a planetary shield into a weapon that ionizes a planet's atmosphere and incinerates the surface. An annoyingly repetitive storyline too.
