So yeah, what is everyone's opinion on the Vikings and their shock infantry options (especially the Jutes). I think it's just a coincidence, but hey the more fleshed out factions the better.

First of they are Vendels :3
and I think you are right on that, the danes will have a higher focus on navy, the geats with their cavs. and Jutes seems to be the only one with two-handed weapons.
But the jytes aren't really the only one with two-handed axes, the Saxon got some to =)

Geats dont get special Cavs, they get two units of "slave spearmen" for whatever reason.
Also I think the since Jutes get two units of Huskarls they will be the more "Shock" oriented faction.
However looking at the unit rooster, there seems to be plenty of shock options for the Danes and the Geats too.
All the Norse units are likely to have high charge bonuses though, like the Suebi.Axe infantry:
Nordic Axe Warband
Huscarls
Nordic Axe Warriors
Royal Huscarls
Viking Raiders
Norse Berserkers
Ahhh okey I stand corrected.

I am just kind of concerned though...
Why are these guys so well armored considering they are at the very edge of civilization.
They look better than some roman units I have seen.

I imagined them more rugged and lightly armored, I am very unfamiliar with this period of history so I am not really sure of how they should look like.
WRE was handing out weapons for anyone that was willing to fight for them while the empire had a great impact on the world for hundreds of years... but still these guys look pretty late in the dark ages, just look at the craftsmanship of those helmets, pretty damn impressive, I just did not think the Danes had that kind of skill that early on.
at least not until well after the fall of the empire and the roman wealth being spread all over europe for its people to draw influence from.

The gear they got was either trade or give in payment, but the problem is we can only presume how much armoured they were.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendel_Period a really small read.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
And I think the one you are thinking on, (the picture) is with the high tier two-handed axe men, they must be kind of higher class echelon of their society.
But again thats the way CA. which to portray them, and what I know of it, it could be base on that rich guy found in a swamp, that was a burial thing in Danemark.
AND YES!! Vendel culture is a 100 years to early, but I don't care, better then generic culture number "#"

TW units have been over-armored in all periods they have featured that is not modern, which is not a bad thing.
I way prefer fictional, interesting interpretations of the Dark Ages, opposed to the reality, which kind of just seems like a bunch of people wearing brown tunics and using round shields and spears, fighting a bunch of other people wearing brown tunics using round shields and spears.

lightly armored doesn't mean boring. just look at some of the depictions of guals in the la tene period. I wish the viking forefathers actually were dressed like they were supposed to be an maybe had a few fantasy units (im okay with a few) but not the entire faction taken from 860 ad and transplanted into 410 ad. thats just dumb. I wont ever buy that dlc.
And you are certifiably entitled not to.
I'm a total viking fanboy though, so while you are sulking over largely irrelevant, historical inaccuracies. I'm manically sacking Rome with a bunch of 10th century Huscarls in giant longships.
Then again If I could buy a DLC which would allow me to manically sack Rome with the armies of Sauron, lord of darkness, I'd probably buy that too. I don't take PC games that seriously.

Yeah brah this community is not angry and nitpicky enough! Damn it TWC y u so forgiving!
Seriously though when did minute historical accuracy ever become a thing? I mean there's a lot of historical games, and pretty much every one of them have historical inaccuracies that would make R2's look petty and trivial. Not saying accuracy is irrelevant, but its not worth throwing a fit over either when they take a little artistic license to sprite thing up.
To historical masterminds like you and me, 10th century vikings in a 4rth century setting might look out of place. But to general people they are just guys with axes they know the name of, as opposed to all the other guys with axes they dont. I dont blame CA for putting vikings in, its an obscure time.

If they added Sauron to this game I would buy that in a heartbeat. A proper dark lord faction with unique mechanics? Hell yes.
Lightly armored is not the boring thing. The boring thing is that everyone in that entire general area fought with the same tactics, the same weapons, the same armor, everything was just exactly the same. That's boring. At least make them look different, like they did with the Greek city states.
