Lag issues

Why does my game lag so much after a while? It's the only reason why I can't play it. I've been trying to enjoy it for years, but around 1-2 years in the game after playing 1 day takes ages. It becomes progressively extremely laggy and slow, until 1 sec in the game is like 3 sec irl at highest speed. And the weird thing is I have 0 lags in any other paradox game, I can enjoy them until the end without the slighest issue of lag. And I also can enjoy all the new games on ultra - high, like far cry 4 that just came out, yet hearts of iron 3 lags so bad.

Anyone knows the problem? It's such a fun game but this ing issue has been preventing me from enjoying it.

Same problem here. After Soviets and USA enters the war everything goes . Any advice for improving performance?.

Do you play vanilla or with Mods?
Wich country? Do you follow mostly a historic approach or do ahistorical decisions(early war etc..)?
