Which faction on your first play-through?

Probably the Franks. See how the new mechanics handle with a smaller starting position. Plus they seem to be getting a good mix of infantry and cavalry.

I plan to play as the Franks. I would convert to Christianity as my first long term goal, as it ensures better relations with the powers of the world. Afterwards, I would ally with the Western Roman empire. As the migrations push east against the tribes in central Germania, I will push eastward, expanding my empire. I wouldn't annihilate the migrating tribes, instead I would simply push them away and use them as a buffer zone, possibly towards my "ally" Rome. As Rome collapses, I will step in to fill the void. And when the Huns come, I will hopefully be ready to face them. The forests of Germany should serve to my advantage against the hordes of horse archers.

Before I mod the out of the Arab factions (assuming CA includes them) I plan to bring East Rome to it's full glory.

I will steady my position from the start, build alliances and trade in the East then once my glorious army supported by my even more glorious economy is ready I shall set westwards to re-unite Rome under it's true banner.

My very first campaign will probably be with one of the Roman Empires just so I can get a feel for the new mechanics and campaign. After that I'll probably play one of the Barbs(I voted the Geats) and cause some mayhem while preparing for the Huns.

I honestly have no idea, probably check each faction i am interested in first (Sassanid, WRE, ERE and whatever horde faction that looks interesting).
which ever that would seem the most interesting I would play first.

Definitely Western Roman, if I get the game. I'm very attached to the Romans and a bit of a challenge won't put me off.

Eastern Empire all day, everyday, I shall tan on the beaches of the Persian Gulf, let my Cataphracts ride through the fields of southern Italy.

And then the Western Roman Empire and convert everything to Arian Christianity :p
