Thread: So is there any hope for a "Rise of Islam" Campaign DLC?

Default So is there any hope for a "Rise of Islam" Campaign DLC?

Just curious, because when the Arabs expanded out, the Prophet (psbuh) had already passed away for quite a few years (or was it decades) so I was just wondering if Sunni Muslims who hold the Caliphs and their generals in any holy way.
Because honestly the only 3 campaign DLCs i can think of, that would be interesting in this period, are Saxons invasion of Britain, Rome vs Persian wars and the rise of the Caliphate.

I don't think so. Way out of the timeframe and quite controversial. Imagine if a feminist uploads videos where she plays only Roxolani campaigns, just to send female horsearcher stacks to Arabia to pepper Mohammed with arrows. However I admit that these scenarios can be incredibly funny. In BI I always played custom battles with 40 stacks of orthodox and catholic priests killing each other, retending it was just an Ecumenical Synod that went wrong.

well as I said Muhammad at the time of the caliphate had already... passed on... and hence could no longer be killed and if CA omits historical names and just insert their own... would that work?

IMO i don't think we will ever see the Rise of Islam in TW , it might be considered too far away from Attila's Start date, secondly because it will certainly piss off some people from both Sunni and Shia Muslims, i don't think the Shias would love to see Ali in the Game nor do Sunnis, so it's almost impossible.

I do not see how it would not.

    Good point ,

I'm a Shia and I ensure people that Shias will be very angry and might react against this .

    Isn't religion wonderful?

You can't represent it's historical past in fictional, digital media without fear of severe backlash at best.

Yeah well its sad that Muslims have to react this way over their own history.

Its not about history , etc .

There are some characters in Islam who are respected and praised especially by Shias .

Unfortunately , May people are not familiar with Shiism and judge it based on other religions , sects .

What about Caliphate faction with random Muslim names?

I would love to see a Grand Campaign beginning somewhere in the 8th or 9th century (for example in 711 AD, when the Muslims invaded the Iberian Peninsula). This period does not comprise Mohammed's or Ali's life, so it would not offend the Muslims.

No, that's stupid. I mean, not the idea, just the fact that we should have to do such a thing. Religion does not get to dictate what parts of history are "Taboo" and what parts are okay to portray. No history should ever be "Forbidden" history.

Political correctness aside, such DLC would have to include a completely new map and tons of new units, which fits more the scope of an expansion rather than DLC. Beside, there are still other interesting theaters. I would love to see a DLC about the attempt of the ERE to reconquer the West after Rome fell.

    I know.

But Romans have random names in R2.

What is the point of freedom of speech in this case?

How can Muslim be upset, if they get own faction in game (remember this war was before Shia/Sunni split)?

And even if they get upset, so what? Law applies to everyone, no matter of religion or race. History is history.

Words of truth right there. People need to stop being afraid of offending Muslims. I am christian but I am not going to act offended when a game shows Christians killing innocent people during the Spanish inquisition because that actually happened and it should not be taken out because some people will be too sensitive to accept it. Why should Muslims be any different?

If anything Rise of Islam should be its own Total War game as that period is quite unexplored in terms of historical gamesettings and is perfect for a starting period seeing as it is a time of great conquest and geopolitical change, while also having several empires and other interesting factions fighting amongst eachother for supremacy. It would be a great shame if such a time period would be taboo to cover due to a minority within the gaming communities personal feelings toward certain people who was alive in that timeframe.

It being out of time frame isn't a problem. I already brought this up earlier today and pointed out that the Muslim invasion of the Sassanid and Byzantine Empires occurred before the Viking invasion of Europe. Medieval 2 was largely based on the crusades, so it would only be more controversial if they actually depicted Mohammad. If the Muslims that travel back in time like the Vikings did were after Mohammad, there wouldn't be any extra controversy.

    I agree completely with this.

as a Protestant Christian, I had zero offence playing Empire Total War when Catholic and Protestant factions were slaughtering each other.

sadly this did happen, lots off lives were lost but nobody can deny that a lot of the fighting was due to the rise in Protestants.

id love to see a DLC with the history off the rise in Islam, I don't understand why (not all) Muslims get so uptight about alot off things, and people throughout the history of the religion. It's a shame.
