A new spotlight video is live now on the official Total War YouTube Channel, in which we take a deeper look into the politics and diplomacy systems in development for ATTILA.

With its all-new family tree and politics system, ATTILA brings real character to your generals and statesmen, and weaves them more tightly into the narrative of your campaign. Likewise, Diplomacy has seen some fundamental improvements functionality above and beyond previous titles.

You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7bOKsoMxUw

Is there any civil war? Because I see that CA avoids to mention it just like they avoided to mention the family treE for Rome II...

At least the script for the video was right, the family tree is more than a welcome feature.

Also seems like the era of nameless and shallow generals is (hopefully) over, now we can feel rage when our favourite generals die and let their sons finish the job.

By all that is holy, it's good to see CA getting back to its roots and actually delivering some decent game design instead of yet another DLC.

Most of this this stuff is recycled from from previous titles but there are some nice little innovations in there. Mentors/retainer system looks promising.

If anyone wants to take the surveys on their opinions about this and Attila pre-order DLC, check out this quick 2 minute survey here:

To be honest, I would feel a diversion from the Rome II civil wars a welcome change. Instead of the entire empire ripping into patchwork of one rebel faction, I'd love to see individual generals rebel and form their own factions.

Great improvement with excellent new features, starting to think of buying this game now.

"The known factions tab can now be resized, so you can now see more or less factions at a time!!!!"

That did make me laugh a bit. Still it's nice of em give us a good, detailed preview of what's to come.

    The Power mechanic looks interesting.

Looks promising! But the UI is once again looking hideous. Those colours...

Have you guys seen what Divide et Impera has done with the UI of Rome II? What happened to the UI designers from Shogun II?

Skip to 2:02, you will see a pop-up window saying that loyalty of Flavius Stilicho is wavering, urging for action lest civil war may break out. Aside from the unfortunate choice of name (the real Flavius Stilicho prefered death over rebellion), I guess they drop the whole Rome 2's concept of "civil war at very high influence" and return to Shogun 2's mechanics where disloyal generals may rebel.

From the gameplay's point of view this decision is understandable. In Rome 2, civil war serves as late game's challenge preventing player from steamrolling the map. In Attila, this role is taken by the Huns. Unfortunately, that would mean civil war will play a much less significant role, as players would invaribly separate disloyal generals from their best armies/ provinces. Still, I might be wrong. Civil war mechanics is still there in Caesar in Gaul, though "Gallic realm divide" is the actual late game challenge.

I feel like someone should do a careful analysis on the video, at 0:40 you can clearly see Western Roman Separatists which is kinda worrying IMO the rebel armies should have the usurper's name on them and the more influence that usurper has over others the more he will be able to flip other generals and people to join his cause.

And me being nitpicky the video shows a 70 year old general who looks 30 max but again this is a minor thing that will only affect people who overly enjoy immersion.

I saw two emergent factions, Britain (Romano British?) and Egypt (Romano Egyptians????)

It's probably to much to ask but if the design of the politics, family tree and character portraits was added to Rome 2 it would be a massive improvement.

This looks quite nice, I guess. What keeps impressing me however is the shading on the character portraits. It makes a hell of a lot of difference for such a minor change.

It looks like its coming along very well. Keep up the hard/good work CA!

Got to agree with everything said so far. Civil Wars should be reworked. The ideas of individual armies rebelling and if your politician owns a city that city would rebel make a lot of sense. I haven't had a civil war in Rome 2... not matter how hard I try. They looked bugged from everything I've seen. More units then you even had showing up. Civil wars in Rome 2 are crap.

The UI looks a lot nicer too. There are some small things that annoy the hell out of me in Rome 2. Ill be in the diplomacy tab, ill click friendliest empires to me so they go happiest to I want to gut your wife angry. When I make a trade agreement or what ever with the first faction, i back out and then the list has reset so I have to click the header again. That stuff needs to be sorted out because its really tedious reclicking each header every time i wanted to see the happiest faction. Were so spoiled in this world and one extra click shouldnt be that big of a deal but it really gets tedious. Expanded the box is awesome for how small of a detail it is.

Make sure theres no bugs with it. Every time I'm giving a intrigue it always give me the wrong outcome. Itll say "Youve got a celtic slave, should you buy, sell or let him go" if I pick buy it sells him. If i let him go, i buy him. I dont get whats going on with that.

The little videos in each pop up look really cool. Its just a static image but the camera moving closer in looks really cool.

I would like to see some more dynamic poses in the unit cards.

Now time to rewatch this 1000 times and unmercifully complain about everything wrong with every little detail.

Damn it I need have to preorder this...
